Chapter 287: Preparations For The Date

~6 min read 1,067 words

Aegon planned to bid everyone farewell. As the host of the party, that was his responsibility, and so he did it. Fortunately, there weren’t many people to begin with, while others were going to stay in the palace or mansion for a while.

The last to say goodbye was Amon, but the man simply cursed at Aegon and left, leaving Aegon confused. He simply couldn’t understand what had happened to him.

’Why are all the Rank 9s so weird?’

What confused him the most was his warning. Amon warned him that if something happened to Elara, he would hold him responsible. Aegon couldn’t understand how the man who only cared about humanity began to care so much about Elara.

It was so confusing.

As he couldn’t get any answer for it, he threw it to the back of his mind and focused on something else. Yesterday’s party had gathered the most powerful and influential people of the Empire; that was the perfect opportunity to sign in.

In the past few months, Aegon had given little priority to the system because he already had so many things. Not to mention, many times the system didn’t even give anything of value.

[Host is ignorant of the system’s greatness.]

’Yeah, yeah.’

Of course, that didn’t mean he gave up on the system. It was just that he paid less attention to the sign-ins. But yesterday he did, hoping to get something of great value.

And he did get it.

[Ding! Undying Totem Acquired.]

A totem which allowed him to survive an attack that would guarantee his death. It was similar to his immortality, but this could work anytime. Though it had limits and could only be used three times in total.

However, the thing that made him happiest was the fact that it was tied to him like his immortality. He could give the totem to someone else and it would work the same.

It meant his loved ones could escape death three times. That was a blessing and far more valuable than anything the system had given him.

’Thank you, system.’

[You know, Host. You are quite tsundere.]

Aegon’s lips twitched in annoyance. What the hell? Why was he getting called tsundere by a freaking system?

[It is true. Sometimes you hate and curse me, then you become grateful and say things like that. Do you hate me? Or do you love me? I don’t understand.]

"That’s your task to accomplish," Aegon shrugged. "Try to learn to differentiate between the two."

[Humans are weird.]

Aegon went back to his room, where he found an unwanted guest already sitting there. He paused before striding forward and slapped the guest’s head. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Of course I’m here to help you," Xavier said, jumping to his feet. "You’ve never been on a date or anything, so I need to look after you. To make sure you don’t mess this up."

"You do realise that you’ve also never dated anyone?" Aegon said. "Heck, you haven’t even fallen in love with anyone. You’re more amateur than me."

"Eh? You’re so sure that I don’t have anyone I love?" Xavier asked, raising an eyebrow.

"If you had, you would come to me crying about it," Aegon rolled his eyes and said. "There’s simply no way you can endure not telling me such big news. Heck, you’ll pester me for days about it."

"I hate that you know so much about me. But fair enough, I would do that," Xavier shrugged, not caring one bit. "But what I meant was, I’ve attended many balls and formal meetings. I can help you dress better."

"I can do it myself," Aegon pushed him aside and reached for his wardrobe. More than a hundred sets of his favourite clothes came into view, making him smile.

"Your fashion sense is so trash," Xavier scoffed as he pointed at the shirts and pants. "You literally wear things that make you the most comfortable."

"What about it?" Aegon asked in confusion.

Xavier facepalmed and said, "You can’t wear them on your first date. Fortunately, I knew your trash fashion sense and prepared for it."

He went to the bedside and picked up a packed suit. "You are going to wear this."

Aegon was going to say something, but by then Xavier had shoved the suit into his hands and said, "Go and try it."

He could only sigh in response and enter the changing room. This was something he couldn’t understand. Back on Earth, he had to use the bathroom to change his clothes or the nurses helped him with it, but here he had an entire room just for changing.

That was how Xiu spoiled him.

A few minutes later, he emerged from the changing room, dressed in Xavier’s suit. He went to check himself in the mirror while Xavier just stared at him deeply.

A tall, handsome young man reflected in the mirror. Deep black hair hanging loosely, golden eyes shimmering despite the bright lighting. Surprisingly, Xavier had chosen a simple blue suit for him, but it fit and suited him so well that even Aegon was surprised.

"You’re not going to a noble’s ball," Xavier said from the side. "So you don’t need flashy ornaments and stuff. Simple works, but what you have is way too simple. This is the best. So, do you like it?"

"I’m surprised," Aegon said honestly. "This is actually pretty good."

"Things don’t end here, buddy," Xavier grinned and snapped his fingers. The next moment, Stephanie entered the room along with three more maids.

They bowed before him, so he nodded in greeting and turned towards Xavier, his face full of questions.

"You need to look even better," Xavier turned towards Stephanie and said. "Aunt, I’m leaving him in your care. Make him look so good that El faints just by looking at him."

"Young Master is already very handsome," a maid said, her eyes glistening with excitement. "But we can give a little boost."

Aegon wanted to say there was no need for any of this, but looking at how excited everyone was for him, he gave in. Seriously, others were more excited than him.

’Still, El also deserves this. I’m sure she will put in a lot of effort, so I can do the same,’ Aegon thought before nodding. "Alright, alright. But you only have thirty minutes."
