Chapter 1008: Damn, You're Good; I Was Moved for Nothing
Guo Wenjing took a deep breath: "Fu Yanming, why don't you go find Fourth Sister-in-law tomorrow and ask her to accompany you; perhaps you can get the key by then. If that happens, I'll start moving the family's things over bit by bit. Once Fourth Brother returns home after his wedding, we can move in immediately."
Fu Yanming didn't want his wife to suffer: "Alright, tomorrow I'll swallow my pride and go find Fourth Sister-in-law."
Fu Yanming now held some grievances against his own second younger brother. Before, he only thought the man was being unruly; now he thought he was blind. For the sake of that woman, Second Sister-in-law, he had insisted on going to the countryside despite their parents' objections, and now he was back to causing trouble for his brothers.
Meanwhile, Fu Yan Cheng, having returned to his unit, gave the dormitory he currently occupied a thorough cleaning.
Fellow soldiers passing by gathered and whispered: "Company Commander, you've scrubbed your dormitory down to the bare skin; if you keep wiping the floor, it'll become a mirror."
"Company Commander Fu, you've taken leave and returned, but something seems off."
The speaker was Shen Kaiyuan, the deputy company commander who was very close to him.
Fu Yan Cheng rinsed the rag in the basin, wrung it out, and hung it in the designated spot: "Go on, go on. We're just tidying up the quarters; what's all this curiosity about?"
Shen Kaiyuan circled him once: "No, you're definitely hiding something from me. Is this what you call tidying up the quarters?"
He pointed at the entire room: "You've almost scrubbed the roof too. At this rate, calling this room a sterile chamber wouldn't be an exaggeration, would it?"
Fu Yan Cheng poured out the water in the basin, then scrubbed the basin itself with soap and rinsed it before finally stopping.
Shen Kaiyuan had intended to smoke; he had just taken out his cigarette pack when he remembered Fu Yan Cheng nearby was quitting, so he put it away: "Is this you having energy with nowhere to put it, or what?"
Fu Yan Cheng glanced at him sideways: "Do you think I'm like you?"
Shen Kaiyuan, who could always be silenced with a single retort: "What do you mean by that? What's wrong with me?"
Fu Yan Cheng pointed toward the family compound: "The house I applied for has been approved. When is your wife coming to join you in the army?"
Hearing this, Shen Kaiyuan dared not believe it: "Your fiancée agreed to join you in the army after the wedding?"
Fu Yan Cheng turned and scanned the surprise on his face: "No, she only said she'd come to the family compound on weekends."
Hearing this, Shen Kaiyuan couldn't feel happy anymore: "My wife..."
He couldn't finish his sentence.
Fu Yan Cheng patted her shoulder: "How about next time you take leave, you bring your sister-in-law out? Let my Xue'er talk to her; perhaps they'll get along."
He had his own reasons for saying this. Although his own Xue'er grew up in the countryside, her words and deeds were no worse than those of girls raised in the city; in fact, she was even better.
He and Shen Kaiyuan had grown up together, so he knew his wife well. The reason that Miss didn't want to join him in the army was twofold: first, she didn't want to give up her current job, and second, she felt there were no kindred spirits in the army family compound.
But he believed Shen Kaiyuan's wife, Mo Ruhua, would definitely get along with his own Xue'er. If they could persuade Mo Ruhua to join him in the army, then when Xue'er came later, she would have someone to talk to and wouldn't feel bored.
After all, he had training during the day and couldn't accompany her all the time.
Hearing this, Shen Kaiyuan's eyes lit up: "Right! If the two of them get along, this could really work. Oh, you're so sharp-minded. Thanks, brother."
But as soon as he said this, he felt he had been tricked: "Wait, you weren't helping me at all. You just wanted your sister-in-law to have someone to talk to when she comes later. Damn, you're good; I was moved for nothing."
