Chapter 1013: Calm, I Got It, I Got the Key

Deputy Director Jiang couldn't possibly not know what Chuxue was worried about; he smiled, patted her shoulder, and said, "Though it's possible someone might use this against us, it's within a controllable range. I only helped a little with the size of the two rooms. Don't worry."

Fu Yanming, having obtained the key, immediately called his wife: "Wenjing, I got it. I got the key."

Guo Wenjing, on the other end of the phone, excitedly jumped up: "Really?"

"Really. Do you want to go check out the apartment first at noon, then come home for lunch?"

"Sure. How about I ask for leave and leave early? No, no, let's just go see the apartment after we eat."

After all, today was the second sister-in-law's first day in charge of making lunch, and she didn't want to cause trouble for no reason.

Fu Yanming quickly understood his wife's meaning: "Alright then, let's go back and eat first."

Hao Yanhong had obviously been warned by Fu Yanwei; by the time they arrived home, the meal was already prepared.

Fu Yanming and his wife arrived home almost at the same time. Paying no mind to how the second sister-in-law's cooking turned out, the two went straight to their room, wolfed down the food, and soon announced they had something to do and needed to go out.

As soon as they left, Hao Yanhong stared at their backs and said, "Does my cooking really not suit the eldest brother and eldest sister-in-law's taste?"

If you say it doesn't suit their taste, they ate way too fast. If you say it does, why does their demeanor look like they were fleeing?

Fu Yanming and Guo Wenjing didn't care how the second sister-in-law thought of them; at least they had gone back and eaten on time.

When they opened the door and saw the apartment they were assigned, they almost shouted out loud, had they not been mindful that others were still in the courtyard.

The apartment was simply too good. They hadn't expected Deputy Director Jiang to directly assign them two main rooms. Most importantly, there was a pendant-gate leading to the rear courtyard beside the house. However, this pendant-gate was currently sealed. The people living in the two courtyards behind used the side gate at the back. Since the house was occupied by employees from other factories, to avoid management complications, this pendant-gate had been sealed off.

The previous household had built a simple shed here and used it as a kitchen. This was perfect.

Guo Wenjing pointed at that spot: "Yanming, we can make good use of this place. Later, we'll build another shed beside this one. When winter comes, we can store coal balls and other things inside."

Saying this, she ran back into the room: "Both of these rooms will be partitioned into two each. Later, we'll live in one, the two daughters in one, the son in one, and the remaining room can serve as a guest room. We owe this favor. Once the fourth sister-in-law enters the family, I will definitely protect her well."

Fu Yanming looked at his wife, whose eyes were full of excitement: "The fourth sister-in-law has a good personality; you two will definitely get along in the future. However, the fourth sister-in-law is very capable, so she probably won't need your protection."

Hearing this, Guo Wenjing straightened up: "Whether she needs it or not, I will protect her."

Fu Yanming's face was all smiles: "Alright, as long as you're happy."

In the following days, the Fu family appeared calm on the surface, but behind the scenes, each household was bustling with activity.

On the eldest branch's side, the couple went to the apartment whenever they had free time to discuss how to renovate it. They had also found craftsmen; these days, preparations for materials had quietly begun, waiting only for the weather to warm up before starting work.

On the second branch's side, Fu Yanwei had completed the procedures and started work, while Hao Yanhong kept urging him to ask the Eunuch to arrange a job for her as well: "Yanwei, right now, only our branch has you working. In the other branches, even the fourth sister-in-law, who is about to marry in, has a job. Doesn't that mean the burden of supporting the family will all fall on your shoulders?
