Chapter 1039: Getting Married
Before Liu Chuxue's wedding, Xiao Fu made a special trip to find Fu's father and Fu's mother and told them everything that had happened at home before.
It was also agreed that on the day of Liu Chuxue's wedding, the Xiao family members would come to entertain the guests, but all matters inside Liu Chuxue's bridal chamber would be handled by some decent colleagues from the factory.
Fu's father and Fu's mother knew about the Xiao family's situation, so naturally they had no objections.
On the day of May Day, before the sky had even brightened, she was dragged up by her good friend Duan Ruirui and her younger cousin Dujuan. After washing up, she put on some light makeup for herself, then put on the black trousers and red blouse she had specially made for the wedding, paired with a pair of mid-heel leather shoes. That graceful, slender appearance left the two of them staring in a daze.
Duan Ruirui hugged Liu Chuxue's arm and acted coquettishly: "Chuxue, when my wedding day comes, you must help me do the same beautiful makeup."
Sister Jiang, who had just come in from outside, teased: "Honestly, no shame at all."
Duan Ruirui stuck out her tongue: "Which bride doesn't want to look beautiful? I'm no exception."
Because she was close with Liu Chuxue, after several visits she had also become well acquainted with Duan Ruirui and Dujuan.
Seeing Dujuan covering her mouth and snickering over there, she was reminded of how her own sister-in-law had recently asked her to scout out a match for her nephew: "Dujuan, you're about the same age as them. Today your older cousin is getting married, and in a few days this girl Ruirui will also be getting married. What about you? Do you want Sister Jiang to introduce someone to you?"
Hearing these words, Dujuan's face immediately turned red, and she waved her hands repeatedly: "I'm still young, no rush."
That little expression amused everyone in the room.
The reason Dujuan refused so decisively was that the person she had previously been preparing to develop into a romantic interest had scared her. She had originally thought that since the man worked in the technical section and looked quite refined and gentle, she might as well try getting to know him.
But unexpectedly, the very next day his widowed mother came knocking at the door. With her inverted-triangle eyes, she sized her up and down as if inspecting merchandise. The moment she opened her mouth, she said that upon marrying in, Dujuan would have to honor her husband and raise children, carry on the family line for the household, and also treat her two sisters-in-law well.
Dujuan had heard plenty of Liu Chuxue's grand lectures on proper judgment, so she was so startled that the very next day she told the man from the technical section that the two of them were not a good match.
That man had been quite attentive toward Dujuan. He never expected that they had only just confirmed their relationship and had not yet announced it to the outside world, yet the very next day the other party had changed her mind.
When he learned it was his own mother who had caused the trouble, he wanted to blow up, but thinking of how his mother had endured all kinds of hardships to raise him on her own, in the end he only let the matter go lightly.
After that, the man still sought her out a few times, but Dujuan gave him no chance.
It was also fortunate she didn't soften her heart. After the two of them completely broke up, the man's two older sisters came knocking again. At first they came to apologize on their mother's behalf, but later, seeing that Dujuan had not the slightest intention of turning back, they directly started calling her a jinx, saying she had caused their brother to barely eat or drink lately, and that a few days before in the workshop he had nearly hurt himself because he was distracted.
After the two sisters learned the full story, they went after Dujuan.
The sense of superiority in their words, and in the end, seeing that Dujuan had not the slightest room to backtrack, they even dropped their previous polite attitude, saying she was nothing but an orphan girl, and that if not for their brother liking her, she wouldn't have had any right to marry in at all. This only strengthened Dujuan's resolve: from then on, whenever she saw that man, she would stay as far away from him as possible.
Even though that man's conditions were not bad, she did not want to marry into a family where three mountains would be pressing down on her head in the future.
From then on, she truly did not have even a shred of romantic feeling left for that man.
Seeing the little girl's expression shifting and changing on her face, which was utterly adorable, Sister Jiang said: "Dujuan, I was planning to introduce you to my little nephew. That boy is tall and big, and he has a real sense of justice. He's currently a police officer at a local police station. Are you really not going to consider it?"
