Chapter 1086: Unexpected Joy
Xiao Fu heard Xiao Mu's words and immediately frowned: "A person's worth lies in self-awareness; from now on, stop thinking about all that nonsense."
Having spoken, he walked straight into the house.
Today's workload was heavy, and he was very tired now.
Remembering what his own elder brother had said to him yesterday, his mood improved considerably.
What he did not know was that someone was discussing him behind his back: "What's going on? Why was he promoted to team leader?"
"That goes without saying; he must have someone above him. Otherwise, how long has he been here? Which of us has less seniority than him?"
"So we're just letting this go?"
"How is that possible?"
"Do you have a plan?"
"We can always find some leverage, can't we?"
"By the way, is getting angry enough? Is your information reliable? Don't tell me you misheard?"
"How could I have misheard? I heard it clearly. Besides, it should be announced in the next few days."
Xiao Fu thought that if he really became team leader, he would earn an extra three yuan and sixty cents a month, which was enough to make anyone happy.
Then he recalled what the squad leader had said to him this morning: this promotion to team leader was not because of his elder brother, but because since he started working, he had been diligent every single day, never slacking off.
At first, he had just wanted to avoid shaming his elder brother, but he never expected this unexpected joy; however, before the matter was finalized, he was strictly forbidden from telling anyone in the family.
When Chunxiao returned, Zhui Feng was lying at the main gate; for some reason, she kicked Zhui Feng directly.
Zhui Feng, stung by the pain, leaped up and knocked her to the ground, then bolted away.
Chunxiao let out a cry of pain, 'Ah!', which startled Xiao Fu and Xiao Mu inside the house.
Xiao Fu ran out first: "What's wrong? What's wrong?"
Chunxiao, who had fallen hard, said: "Dad, it was Zhui Feng; it knocked me to the ground."
Xiao Fu helped her up while looking around: "Where is Zhui Feng?"
Chunxiao, grimacing in pain, said: "It ran away; after knocking me down, it bolted out of the alley."
Xiao Fu did not believe Zhui Feng would attack someone without reason: "How did you provoke it?"
Anyway, dogs couldn't talk, and no one had passed by just now; though guilty, she still argued defiantly: "How could I possibly have provoked it?"
By now, Xiao Mu had come over: "What did you just say? Zhui Feng knocked you down?"
Seeing Xiao Mu approach, Chunxiao said: "Mom, in the village, because our home was remote, we kept a dog to guard the house; now that we live in the city, what's the point of keeping it? Besides, luckily it only hit me today; if it had hit you or some passerby, what would we do then?"
Hearing these words, Xiao Mu felt a chill of fear: "You do make some sense."
Chunxiao had originally liked Zhui Feng quite a bit, but although the dog was raised by the family, it listened most to her second sister; the day she and her second sister had a conflict, it had actually barked at her and even bared its teeth at her.
Xiao Fu, listening to their conversation, wore a very serious expression: "Zhui Feng has always been well-behaved; it has never attacked anyone on its own initiative, let alone attack a family member."
Chunxiao grew anxious: "Dad, what do you mean by that?"
Xiao Mu, fearing the father and daughter would quarrel again, said: "Enough, enough; living in the city is indeed not suitable for keeping Zhui Feng. If it ever hits or bites someone, it will only bring trouble to the family. We should find a time to take it back to the village and see if anyone wants to adopt it."
Chunxiao, however, disagreed: "We raised it for so long; how can we just give it away for free? Later, ask Grandpa to find a family for it; they should at least compensate us. If not, we can even sell it for dog meat; someone will definitely buy it."
