Chapter 1165: Have You Chosen Our Son
After hanging up the phone, Liu Chuxue patted her chest and muttered to herself: "Thank heaven, thank heaven—the call came just in time; otherwise, if I'd gone myself, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed for three days."
Given Fu Yan Cheng's temperament, he'd definitely demand territorial concessions and reparations from me before letting me off the hook, so to protect myself, a harmless little lie should be understandable.
At dinner, Team Leader Zhou handed out train tickets to everyone: "Tomorrow morning's train—everyone keep your tickets safe."
Liu Chuxue returned to the room, tidied her things, and saw that her single suitcase had become three; luckily, she was strong enough, or it would've been impossible to manage—this was the only way to pass inspection.
Once everything was settled, she entered the space; seeing it was still early, she set an alarm and fell asleep—she needed to be fully rested for tonight's transaction.
While she was at ease, upstairs was anything but calm: Wan Qing called Qin Ruoyun in Beijing after dinner, only to find the other woman didn't comfort her but called her a useless fool; even though she was furious, she dared not show it on the phone, and now back in her room, she flew into a rage at the bed Liu Chuxue had slept in.
After venting, she tore open her own pillow, spilling rice husks all over the floor.
Looking at the mess all around her, Wan Qing burst into tears.
Since the walls weren't soundproof, Mi Aijun next door, annoyed by her endless crying, roared: "What are you crying for? Can't you let people rest?"
His roar startled Team Leader Zhou on the other side.
He opened his door and stepped out, frowning as he walked down the corridor, only then realizing it was Wan Qing crying—he didn't want to get involved, but she was under his command.
With a visibly impatient expression, he walked to Wan Qing's door and knocked lightly a few times: "Wan Qing, what's wrong?"
Wan Qing didn't want anyone to see the state of her room, so she quickly tidied up, opened the door a crack, and said: "Team Leader, I'm fine—just feeling homesick."
Team Leader Zhou didn't believe her for a second, but still spoke gently: "This trip has been long, but we're leaving tomorrow—quickly pack your things and get some rest, don't delay our departure."
Though her heart was still sour, Wan Qing still gave Team Leader Zhou his due; she could only reply with a sniffle: "I understand, Team Leader."
Team Leader Zhou, seeing her respond, turned and returned to his room.
Zhang Aiguo watched his master go in: "You calmed her down? What a living ancestor—if…"
Team Leader Zhou shot him a glance, silencing his apprentice: "Enough. Pack your bags quickly—we need rest. We're rising early tomorrow."
Beijing
When Xiao Fu arrived at the ward with a lunch box, Xiao Mu was happily teasing their son: "Son, hungry? Your dad's bringing food—soon you'll have milk to drink."
As she spoke, Xiao Fu walked in with the items: "Why are you so late?"
Xiao Fu wasn't offended—he smiled and stepped forward: "Miao Auntie stewed chicken soup for you, so it took longer—how's the baby? Did he give you trouble?"
At the mention of the baby, Xiao Mu's face lit up: "Our son's so well-behaved—he never fusses."
Then she remembered something and looked up: "By the way—have you chosen a name for our son?"
Xiao Fu smiled: "Dad said he hopes our son grows up broad-minded and ambitious—his name is Xiao Wanheng. 'Wan' is from your brother's kids, and 'Heng' means perseverance."
He took Xiao Mu's hand and wrote the name in her palm; she'd attended literacy class and repeated it softly: "Xiao Wanheng—Wanheng—nice."
Xiao Fu smiled at his son: "His nickname will be Stone—it's sturdy."
Hearing this, Xiao Mu's smile deepened: "Fine, I'll go with you—his nickname is Stone."
Xiao Fu opened the lunch box: "Let me pour you a bowl of soup—drink it while it's hot."
Xiao Mu thought of how their son had been fed formula before, and her heart ached—not for the cost of the milk powder, but because she wanted to nurse him herself; she'd nursed all three daughters, and now she feared her son wouldn't bond with her if she couldn't feed him.
