Chapter 12: Disclosure

~4 min read 666 words

The other three naturally heard their conversation. Liu Xiaqiu, with a tearful voice, roared: "If Grandpa and Grandma hadn't insisted on Dad working at the reservoir, how could this have happened? Now that it has, they don't care?"

Father Liu was equally disappointed, but what could he do?

Hearing his eldest daughter's roar, he tried to suppress his bitterness: "Mother of the children, actually they are right. I'm afraid my leg won't be cured even if I go to the city. It's better to..."

Liu Chuxue interrupted him: "Whether it can be cured or not, we have to try. What if it can? Even if it can't, we won't regret it later. Money can be earned again, but the chance to treat the leg won't come back."

For a moment, everyone fell silent.

Liu Chuxue couldn't stand the atmosphere, so she left the ward to go to the doctor's office, asked about Father Liu's condition, and returned.

Seeing that the patient and family in the next bed were gone, she took a deep breath and said something shocking: "If we use this incident to split from the family, would you be willing?"

She and the eldest branch could never get along, so it was better to plan early.

Liu Mother naturally wanted to split the family, but she never dared to say it: "Xue, your grandparents won't agree."

"I'm just asking if you are willing to split the family?"

Father Liu’s lips moved, but no sound came out.

Liu Xiaqiu and Qiu Shaofeng were frightened by her idea. After all, villagers valued not splitting the family while parents were alive.

Liu Chuxue, seeing their expressions, said slowly: "It might not come to that, but after Dad's accident, you saw the family's reaction. They would rather give money to the second cousin to buy a job than give money to treat Dad's leg."

There were many such unfair things in the original owner's memories, so she provoked them: "These years, Grandpa and Grandma seem to treat the three sons equally, but think carefully, is it really the same?"

Seeing them fall into thought: "I'm just giving you a heads-up so you can be prepared. After all, with Dad's situation, maybe the other two branches will think our second branch is a burden."

She knew saying this would hurt Father Liu, but it was better than being hit again and again. After all, avoidance couldn't solve problems.

Seeing it was getting late, Liu Mother feared her daughter and son-in-law would have to travel at night: "Alright, your dad has me to take care of him. You go back early. Once things are settled, I'll send word."

Qiu Shaofeng looked at his father-in-law: "Mom, why don't I stay to take care of Dad tonight? You go back to rest and come back tomorrow to relieve me. Dad's injury can't be delayed, and you can go back to discuss it with Grandpa and Grandma again."

Liu Mother felt a warmth in her heart and looked at her husband.

Father Liu knew: Since his wife and daughter said so, there was no room for further discussion.

Before he could respond, Liu Chuxue said: "That's good. Then Brother-in-law, you stay, and Sister and I will accompany Mom back to the village."

Father Liu looked at his leg, thought of his wife and daughters, and gathered his courage: "Fine, then talk to them again. Tell them the money for the treatment is a loan. Once my leg is better, I'll find a way to earn money to pay it back to the public fund."

With the plan set, the mother and two daughters left the clinic.

There weren't many people on the road, so Liu Chuxue pulled them to the riverside, which was open and rarely visited: "Mom, Sister, there's something I need to tell you."

She didn't want to fight alone; it was better to let her family know the bottom line.
