Chapter 1300: Xiao Mu's Expression Seemed to Have Changed

~4 min read 756 words

Mentioning her youngest son's marriage, Zhang Haitang's face was full of joy: "Aunt Miao, preparations are nearly complete; we're just waiting for the day. Once Wanpeng gets married, I'll consider my mission accomplished."

Miao Yiqiu scanned the courtyard: "Why don't I see the two of them?"

Zhang Haitang smiled and took Miao Yiqiu's arm: "Ruirui has been busy at her workplace these past few days, getting off work quite late, so Wanpeng went to pick her up."

Hearing this, Chuxue was momentarily stunned, but she didn't speak up, thinking she would ask around once Duan Ruirui arrived.

After finishing what she had in hand, Chuxue stood up.

Now that Xiao Mu had finished her postpartum confinement, naturally, there was no issue with her, a pregnant woman, entering her room.

After washing her hands upon standing, she went straight into the room.

Xiao Mu was changing her son's diaper; hearing the commotion, she looked up and saw it was Chuxue: "Come quickly and take a look at your little brother."

Since being lectured by the Eunuch, she had indeed realized her mistake.

The Eunuch was right; they had their son at such an advanced age, and in the future, they would have to rely on their several older sisters for care. Although it is all care, there is a world of difference between doing so willingly and doing so perfunctorily.

Whenever she had free time, she pondered this matter; previously, she had thought wrongly.

Now that Xia Qiu and Chuxue were both married, only Chunxiao and Shi Tou remained at home. Chunxiao had finished high school and was about the age to marry; by then, everything in the family would belong to Shi Tou. Her husband held a formal job, which would also be left to their son. As long as nothing unexpected happened, their son's future life would be fine.

As long as he maintained good relationships with his three older sisters, it would indeed be more practical than her trying to squeeze things out of them for their son. Even if she and her husband were not around, as long as the sisters had him in their hearts and thought of him often, that would be better than anything else.

Chuxue approached; for some reason, she felt Xiao Mu's expression seemed to have changed.

However, she didn't take it to heart.

The little one had grown quite a bit now; his appearance mostly resembled his father's. As soon as Chuxue got close, he smiled at her and made sounds, which made Chuxue, who loved children, feel an extra sense of closeness.

Xiao Mu naturally wouldn't miss this opportunity: "Shi Tou likes Second Sister, doesn't he? Look how happily he's smiling."

Chuxue reached into her pocket and took out a jade pendant: "This is what I prepared for my little brother; please keep it safe for him for now."

Xiao Mu didn't expect Chuxue to prepare such a precious item; she had heard people say before that jade nourishes the person and wards off evil spirits. Her heart leaped with joy: "Shi Tou, look how good Second Sister is to you. Mom will sew this jade pendant into your pillow later, and when you're a bit bigger, I'll let you wear it."

While speaking, she held her son's small hand and made a bowing gesture toward Chuxue: "Come, let's thank Second Sister."

After finishing, she looked up at Chuxue: "How have you been lately? Is your morning sickness severe?"

Chuxue straightened up: "It's okay; I do have morning sickness, but it's not severe."

Xiao Mu smiled: "That's good. Don't keep standing."

Seeing her staring continuously at the son in her arms: "Do you want to hold him?"

Chuxue looked for a long while, then waved her hand: "Forget it; he's too small, and I'm afraid I won't hold him properly."

Xiao Mu, however, became interested: "In a few months, you'll be a mother too; consider this advance practice. Come, I'll teach you."

Saying this, she handed the son over.

In her previous life, Chuxue had taken care of her best friend's children many times, but never when they were just a few months old. Back then, her best friend stayed at a confinement center for over half a year, with professional staff caring for the baby; when she visited, it was purely for appreciation.

Relying only on the little experience she had from holding Junjun before, when Shi Tou was handed into her arms, she was terrified of not holding him properly and felt extremely nervous.
