Chapter 1321: Dividing the Family

~5 min read 981 words

Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu were not surprised to hear their eldest son propose dividing the family, as they had privately discussed the matter themselves before.

At the time, they had only imagined that if their eldest son were pulled into the city by his in-laws, dividing the family would be best to avoid conflict, but they never expected to face it so soon.

Qiu Shaocheng grew anxious: "Big Brother, what are you saying? As long as parents are alive, the family should not be divided. If we truly split, wouldn't I become a sinner?"

Qiu Shaofeng patted his second brother's shoulder: "Second Brother, no one blames you, but I am human, not a god. With your sister-in-law and Junjun not by my side, I am already anxious for not being able to help at all, and I do not wish to be bothered every day. Even if we divide the family, we are still blood brothers. I only ask that your wife stop dragging your sister-in-law into things. If your sister-in-law had not married me, she would have no connection whatsoever with your wife. Do you not agree?"

Qiu Shaocheng took a deep breath: "Brother, I am sorry."

He understood in his heart; just as he was unwilling to cause trouble for An Xiaojing, his big brother did not want his sister-in-law to be bullied, and he could understand that.

Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu did not want their two sons to lose their brotherly bond over trivial matters, so they invited village cadres and the eldest Qiu couple to serve as witnesses.

An Xiaojing, fearing they might show bias, asked her husband to summon her own family to come over.

The news reached Fu Yanwan's ears, and she immediately called Ren Jiangfeng to go to the farm office and summon the Farm Director; the three of them entered the Qiu household in quick succession with the An family.

At first, everyone did not understand their purpose, but the Farm Director smiled and said, "My niece-in-law, oh, that is Shaofeng's sister-in-law, asked me to look after her older sister more. Hearing that the Qiu family is dividing the property and Shaofeng's wife is not here, I thought I would come and take a look."

Now everyone understood; the An family had arrived. Even if they were not Xia Qiu's relatives, with the Farm Director present, the An family dared not act recklessly. They were not here to fight for Xia Qiu's interests, but to hold the ground.

An Fu was a minor manager at the farm. Even if he wanted to fight for his daughter, with the Director sitting there, he dared not go too far.

However, the division went smoothly. Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu, along with their daughter, formed one share. Each person would live in their own house. After Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu passed away, the house they lived in and the room where Qiu Shaomei lived would be split between the two brothers, one room each. The storage room and the kitchen would be divided the same way, with each family choosing one.

As for money, there were seventy-two yuan in the common fund. The two brothers would each receive twenty-five, and the remainder belonged to Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu.

Regarding caring for the elderly, they were still young now, and that was a matter for the future. The two brothers would discuss it then.

The remaining household grain would be divided by headcount.

An Xiaojing heard this and initially wanted to make a scene, claiming that since Xia Qiu had gone to the city, she should not get a share, but everyone looked at her as if she were mad.

The Farm Director glanced at An Fu, and An Fu had to step forward: "Enough, say a few less words."

Qiu Fu spoke up then: "Your sister-in-law has only been in the city for a few days. The household grain is based on last year's work points. As for this year's work points, I will have the accountant calculate them separately for you later. Each family will be accounted for separately."

Hearing these words, An Xiaojing felt somewhat guilty, as she had not worked for a long time, and indeed had no grounds to say more.

Not long after Qiu Tai Nai passed away, the second branch of the Qiu family also divided the household.

The eldest branch had originally wanted to see the second branch make a fool of itself, but right after finishing the division meal at the second branch's house, the eldest branch started a quarrel, and it grew increasingly fierce. As a result, by the next morning, the eldest branch also divided the household. The youngest son would temporarily live with the eldest Qiu couple, but he would move out after he married and returned to his wife's family.

Qiu Laotou naturally continued to live with the eldest Qiu couple, but he never expected that his mother had only just passed away and both of his sons' households had already divided. He could not help but let out a long sigh.

Since dividing the family was such a major event, Qiu Shaofeng naturally wanted to inform his wife immediately.

So the next day, as soon as Xia Qiu arrived at her workplace, she received a call from Qiu Shaofeng: "What did you say? The family has divided?"

Qiu Shaofeng lightly hummed "Hmm," did not hide anything from Xia Qiu, and recounted the whole story so she would not be unaware and suffer losses later.

After the surprise passed, Xia Qiu was actually quite happy in her heart: "Take good care of yourself at home. I will pay closer attention later and see if I can find you a job, even if it is just temporary work. Dividing the family is not a bad thing for us, don't you think?"
