Chapter 1325: For Self-Preservation, This Clumsy Method of Early Warning Was All She Could Come Up With for Now

~5 min read 828 words

All the way home, Liu Chuxue still hadn't thought of a good plan.

The moment the front gate opened, Zhui Feng came rushing up.

But just as he charged close, he suddenly made a hundred-and-eighty-degree turn, ran a full circle around the yard, then rushed back to Liu Chuxue's side. This time he kept his speed in check, stopping right in front of her, calling out with a wronged look on his face, and still remembered to wag his tail to curry favor.

It made Liu Chuxue laugh outright: "Alright, alright, my poor Zhui Feng feels wronged, does he? I'll make you something nice later to make it up to you."

Saying so, she reached out and rubbed Zhui Feng's head: "Be good, go play by yourself."

She truly had no mood to fuss over Zhui Feng right now—after all, time waits for no one. If that disaster was still going to arrive as scheduled, even though she couldn't stop it, she still wanted to do whatever she could. Even if all she could do was give the higher-ups an early warning, that would be good—but what was she supposed to do right now?

After entering the yard, she sat absent-mindedly in the rocking chair under the osmanthus tree, just thinking about what to do.

With her current status, forget about meeting any heavyweight figures—but places like the municipal government and the Gongan Bureau were still possible. Even if she couldn't meet the leaders, as long as she delivered the news to more places, surely it would attract attention.

That way, even if no disaster came later, she could just treat it as a prank—better than doing nothing at all.

So she decided to act on it. After all, for the sake of self-preservation, this clumsy method was the only thing she could come up with for now.

She got up, shut the front gate, went inside, found paper and a pen, and began writing. She wrote over a dozen copies in one go before finally setting down her pen, thinking this matter couldn't be delayed—it looked like she'd have to make a trip back to the city tomorrow.

What she could do right now was probably only this much. Seeing the sky was already getting late, Fu Yan Cheng would be back from training soon.

The green vegetables in the yard—she'd mixed quite a bit of the spatial pool water into the water when she watered them before heading back to the city. In just a few days, the growth was very pleasing.

She went to the kitchen first, added water to the pot, and prepared to make some porridge. There were steamed buns, sugar buns, and flower rolls she'd steamed earlier in the spatial space. She took some out to steam in a bit, planning to say they were brought from the Xiao family, trusting Fu Yan Cheng wouldn't ask too many questions.

After that, she went to the yard and pulled some green vegetables, not planning to stir-fry them—just washed them clean and made a cold dish.

Fu Yan Cheng saw his own chimney smoking from far away, and nearly broke into a jog heading home. His strides were so long that the few men walking back with him could barely keep up: "Yan Cheng, why are you walking so fast?"

It would've been fine if Shen Kaiyuan hadn't asked, but the moment he did, Fu Yan Cheng broke into a jog straight home: "My wife's back, I'm in a hurry to go back and lend a hand."

After saying that, he didn't care what the people behind him thought and just ran off like that.

The few men left behind exchanged glances, and then someone said: "Ever since Battalion Commander Fu got married, his temperament has changed too."

Shen Kaiyuan shot that person a look: "You'll understand once you have a wife."

Hearing this, that man raised a hand and touched his own head: "Deputy Battalion Commander Shen, I was called here by you to help with work."

Shen Kaiyuan turned to look at that man: "Ma Wuliang, it's a fact that you don't have a wife. What, because I spoke a truth, you want to throw a tantrum on me?"

Ma Wuliang looked at the gaze cast his way, deliberately keeping a straight face: "One rank higher and you can crush a man to death—how would I dare?"

Just as Shen Kaiyuan raised his arm, ready to deal with him, the man took off running: "You can't catch me."

Shen Kaiyuan was genuinely annoyed by his childish antics: "Fine. I was originally planning to stir-fry a few hearty dishes for you all, but with that infuriating attitude of yours, I think I'll just forget it."

Ma Wuliang immediately stopped his forward-running motion: "Don't! It took a lot to get a meal from you, don't go looking for excuses—this blame I won't take."

The few men who'd come to help all burst out laughing.
