Chapter 1333: Secret Early Warning
After Fu Yan Cheng left, Chuxue didn't linger in bed either—after all, she still had to catch the bus.
Although she was pressed for time, the thought of the little one in her belly needing nutrition made her wash up first, then hurry through breakfast before heading out the door.
Passing the small square, she noticed several military dependents sitting under a nearby tree, who had gone together to the service station at the unit: "Look, isn't that Battalion Commander Fu's wife?"
"It really is. She just got back and now she's heading out again?"
"She's got a job in the city, so naturally she's catching the bus back to work. What's so strange about that?"
"What do you know? I heard Battalion Commander Fu's wife quit her job and is preparing to follow the army."
"Really? I thought she was an accountant at a big factory, the pay wasn't low at all—did she really quit?"
"I'm not too clear on the details myself, only heard that Battalion Commander Fu's family resigned to follow the army."
"She really doesn't know how to run a household—quitting such a good job just like that, who knows what she was thinking?"
"Battalion Commander Fu's parents are both cadres, they don't need the couple to subsidize the family. With a salary that high every month, even if the wife doesn't work, their days are still better than ours. Stop being a busybody."
"We were just chatting as the talk went along, how can you say that."
Chuxue had no idea that the few of them had capsized the little boat of friendship chatting about her.
She hurried as fast as she could and finally boarded the bus at the very last moment before departure—luck was still on her side, there were seats left on board.
Once seated, she sent her consciousness into the space, worried the slips she'd written last night wouldn't be enough, so she started writing more.
The bus rocked along the whole way, and over a dozen more slips were added in the space. The content on them was the same: telling them to closely watch for anomalies around Tang City, estimating the approximate time range when the disaster would strike, and urging them to arrange personnel resettlement and property transfers in advance.
After getting off, she first went to the city government. Taking advantage of the gatekeeper uncle not paying attention, she tossed the warning with the red reminder heading in through the window, making sure the uncle could see it at a glance, before turning and leaving.
At the bottom of each sheet, red pen marked: "Heavy responsibility, report immediately."
Over the course of one morning, she changed outfits several times, going respectively to the city public security bureau, each district's public security bureau, and the armed forces department, until all the early-warning messages had been delivered. The moment she relaxed, she felt her stomach growling fiercely—today morning's activity had really been too much.
She found a nearby state-run restaurant and ordered a home-style tofu, a tomato and scrambled egg, and a bowl of rice.
She ate heartily, but the units she'd visited were in an uproar.
Because time was tight and the task heavy, she couldn't think of a better method, so she decided to cast a wide net—surely some with a strong sense of responsibility would pass it up to the leaders. As long as half the units took today's reminder seriously and reported upward, she believed someone would surely investigate.
Maybe there wouldn't be any major anomalies in the next few days, but in the days after that, there would definitely be discoveries. Whether they believed it or not, as long as they chose to err on the side of caution, her efforts wouldn't be in vain.
If this life deviated and the butterfly effect erased that disaster, she wouldn't regret today's actions either—nothing is more important than human lives.
Anyway, when she dropped them off, she always made sure no one was around and that she wouldn't expose herself before acting, so even if someone investigated later, they wouldn't trace it back to her.
After eating, Chuxue didn't linger.
She had forgotten to feed the dog when she left in the morning—if she didn't head back, Zhui Feng would probably be starved flat.
That fellow had quite the temper now. Imagining Zhui Feng's exasperated expression when she got back, she couldn't help quickening her steps.
