Chapter 1376: Whose Child Is This?

The three women spent the afternoon working, cutting out more than sixty evenly sized red date cakes.

After tasting them, everyone praised them endlessly; even Fu Yan Cheng, who dislikes sweets, ate an entire piece: "Natural ingredients, the taste is good."

What they did not know was that the rich, sweet aroma of the red dates drifted far away, and many children came following the scent.

Liu Chuxue did not expect this sweet fragrance to attract so many children; without exaggeration, some were drooling with craving. Thinking of how most children in later generations grow up in a honey pot, Liu Chuxue was suddenly moved by compassion.

After roughly scanning the children gathered at the main gate, she asked her sister-in-law to cut a few pieces of date cake into strips two fingers wide. Liu Chuxue carried them to the gate and called out to the gathered children: "Come, these are date cakes my sister-in-law just made. There are too many to divide evenly, so here is a small piece for each of you to taste."

Those children did not expect such a good thing; except for a few individuals, they all politely said thank you.

Seeing some children take the cake and devour it in two bites, while others took tiny bites to savor it, afraid to finish it all at once and miss the deliciousness of the date cake, Liu Chuxue felt many emotions regardless of the situation.

Just as he was lost in thought, Liu Chuxue's sudden cry of "Ah!" brought him back to his senses.

He saw two children fighting.

Liu Chuxue wanted to go over to break it up, but Fu Yan Cheng stopped her: "I will handle it; you just wait."

Before Fu Yan Cheng could act, someone who had just returned from training stepped forward and pulled the two children apart: "You usually play well together; how did you end up fighting?"

The boy whose chin had been scratched and bled felt quite innocent: "How was I to know the date cake in his hand would drop? I didn't have eyes on the back of my head. He said nothing, and as soon as I turned my head to look at him, he threw a punch."

At this, Fu Yan Cheng also walked over and looked at the accused child: "Is what he said correct?"

That child pouted his small face: "I couldn't bear to eat much, and he stepped on it with his foot."

The other one got upset: "You were standing behind me; I didn't know your date cake had dropped. Can you blame me?"

Remembering something, he continued: "Whether you dropped it because you didn't hold it well or because someone else bumped it to the ground, if you didn't hold it well, that is your own problem. If someone else bumped it to the ground, you should go find that person. Why are you taking your anger out on me?"

Liu Chuxue did not expect this child, despite his young age, to speak so logically and clearly, so she couldn't help but ask Mo Ruhua beside her: "Whose child is this?"

Mo Ruhua leaned close to Liu Chuxue: "This is Tian Jianping, the eldest son of Company Commander Tian's family under your husband Fu Yan Cheng's regiment."

Hearing it was the son of Company Commander Tian, Liu Chuxue nodded; parents with correct values raise children who are no less impressive: "This child is quite smart."

Fu Yan Cheng stared at the child who had scratched the other: "Gen Hong, how did your cake drop?"

He knew both children: one was Tian Jianping, the eldest son of Company Commander Tian Changxing under his command, and the other was Xu Genhong, the son of Company Commander Xu, the Tiger of Xu Company.

Xu Genhong glanced sideways at the other child standing nearby. Fu Yan Cheng followed his gaze and saw Ye Fengze, the son of Regiment Commander Ye Mingli, looking guilty as he tried to retreat behind the crowd.

Regiment Commander Ye happened to be among those returning from training: "Fengze, is what Gen Hong said true?"

With so many people staring at him, and given that his parents had educated him from childhood, Ye Fengze could not deny it or pin the blame on others: "I didn't mean to. We were standing back-to-back at the time; how was I to know I would bump into him?"
