Chapter 1402: Startled

When Xu Hanmo came in, he raised his voice directly: "What exactly is going on that you had to summon me personally?"

Commander Guan gestured for everyone to take a seat and called out Fu Yan Cheng's name: "You explain the details of the matter."

Fu Yan Cheng stood up, rendered a standard military salute, and then recounted the entire sequence of events.

Chief Xu could no longer remain calm: "Where are those items?"

Fu Yan Cheng looked toward Commander Guan.

Commander Guan took up the thread: "For safety's sake, I had Battalion Commander Fu drive the vehicle directly into the division's combat readiness warehouse, allowing no one else to touch it."

Chief Xu held the note from earlier: "Then let's go; we'll move together to see exactly how much wealth there is."

Yet when they saw the large and small boxes on the truck, they too were startled.

Especially upon seeing that half of the sheepskin map, they dared not delay any further and immediately reported the matter to within the Red Wall.

Soon, special personnel arrived to take over these items.

Considering that antiques and jade were worthless in these times, and that the boxes contained mostly gold, with the remainder being national-level antiques and calligraphy and paintings that ordinary people could not privately possess, it was best to return these items to the state's hands; after all, keeping them oneself was a hot potato.

When Fu Yan Cheng returned, it was already late: "Wife, I'm back."

Liu Chuxue saw his radiant face and couldn't help but tease: "Looks like you're in a good mood."

Fu Yan Cheng stepped forward and embraced her from behind: "Wife, previously a deputy regiment commander position opened up above. It was originally a contest among us several battalion commanders. My military merits were sufficient, but I only rose to full battalion commander at the end of last year, yet the other battalion commanders had this or that shortcoming, so the higher-ups never confirmed a candidate."

Liu Chuxue turned her head to look at him, her eyebrows and eyes smiling: "Could it be that because of today's matter, you finally got your wish?"

Fu Yan Cheng kissed the tip of her nose: "That's right. Who else but me married a wife with such good fortune? They can only be envious."

Liu Chuxue leaned her entire body into Fu Yan Cheng's embrace: "Then you must treat me even better from now on."

Fu Yan Cheng kissed Liu Chuxue's face heavily: "That goes without saying. But even without today's matter, I would only treat you well. My life was saved by you; naturally, I must give myself to you, respecting and loving you for a lifetime."

Although Liu Chuxue, who came from a later era, would not fully believe such words, she had to admit these words truly made one's head spin: "Alright, you must remember the words you've spoken."

Fu Yan Cheng kissed Liu Chuxue's face once more before continuing: "On my way back, I also met people from the Logistics Department. They said they would send a letter of commendation to you in a few days."

Liu Chuxue paused for a moment: "So soon? By the way, why the Logistics Department?"

Seeing her expression, Fu Yan Cheng knew she had misunderstood: "It's not a commendation for today's matter; how could that be so fast? It's about the roasted goods workshop."

Liu Chuxue had been very busy recently and had forgotten about the roasted goods workshop: "Looks like the workshop's business is doing well?"

Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "Because of the several recipes you provided, those flavors of roasted goods are very popular. The workshop has not only cleared all the stock in Hulan Village but also signed letters of intent for the peanuts and sunflower seeds they planted this year, waiting to sign formal contracts before the autumn harvest. Moreover, the troops here stand as guarantors; next year, as long as the peanuts and sunflower seeds planted in the several villages under Qingshan Town meet quality standards, the workshop will purchase them all."

Hearing this, Liu Chuxue said: "Isn't the step a bit too large?"

If the villages below plant in large quantities, and supply exceeds demand, wouldn't that be looking for trouble?

Don't blame me then.
