Once the two reached the place, Fu Yan Cheng first circled around that side, and after making sure no one was in the alley, he said: "Xiao Wu, you stand watch outside. If that Section Chief Song comes back, use the secret signal to alert me."

Xiao Wu nodded: "Got it."

He knew Vice Fu's skills were far better than his own, but he hadn't expected that with just one borrowing of force, the deputy regiment leader leapt straight into the courtyard in a single bound.

After Fu Yan Cheng landed, without much delay he took a few steps to the side of the house, used the wall for cover, and listened carefully to the sounds inside.

After quite a while without hearing any movement, only then did he tiptoe into the house.

The two outer rooms showed nothing unusual. Just as he was about to enter the inner room, he saw the floor inside was smooth and spotless, so he took off his shoes.

The inside really was, as Xiao Wu had said, far too clean—nothing at all except a set of bedding on the floor. But the more it was like this, the more he felt this room was strange.

He had practically felt over every inch, yet found nothing. Could it be that he was wrong?

His gaze fixed on the bedding on the floor. Finally, just as he was about to give up and leave, he noticed a rope tucked between the quilt and the mattress. The rope's color was almost the same as the pattern on the bedding—without looking closely, it was impossible to spot at all.

He had indeed moved the bedding aside earlier and found nothing.

He moved the bedding aside again and pulled out that seemingly ordinary rope. But what he hadn't expected was that, hidden beneath the quilt and connected to that rope, there was another specially-made rope nearly the same color as the floor. The rope was as thin as a thread—anyone with slightly poorer eyesight simply couldn't have spotted it, especially since this room's window was much smaller than the two in front, and the light inside wasn't very good.

He gave the rope a hard pull and found that section of floor was actually pulled up, revealing a pitch-black hole beneath. This confirmed the guess in his mind.

Seeing that time was running short, he didn't rashly go in.

Instead, he pushed the bedding back in its original order exactly as before, returned the rope to its original position, and backed out of the room. He put his shoes back on and retreated out of the house the same way as before. After confirming he left no trace, only then did he head into the courtyard.

He exchanged the secret signal with Xiao Wu outside, confirmed it was safe out there, and with a running start, leapt out of the courtyard.

Just as he landed and steadied himself, he heard movement in the neighboring courtyard. Fu Yan Cheng quickly gave Xiao Wu a look, and the two of them, before anyone came out of that neighboring courtyard, swiftly walked forward.

Anyone looking would have thought they were just passersby.

Just as the two had stepped out of the alley entrance, Xiao Wu whispered a reminder: "The person coming from ahead is the target."

Fu Yan Cheng glanced over that way, and the two of them, with unspoken understanding, turned into the alley ahead before the person walked over, perfectly avoiding running into him face-to-face.

Fu Yan Cheng thought over today's discovery: "Xiao Wu, you all keep watching. I'm heading back to the unit. If there's any new discovery, don't need to come back in person—just notify me with the secret signal, and I'll bring people and come over right away."

Fu Yan Cheng returned to the unit, didn't go back to see Chuxue, but went straight to the office area. Seeing the regiment commander's office light was on, he walked over in a few steps.

He raised his hand, about to knock, when the door opened: "Come in quickly."

He saw that not only was the regiment commander inside, but even Instructor Guo and Shen Kaiyuan were there as well.

Shen Kaiyuan couldn't hold back first: "How did it go? Any new discoveries?"

If there are no new discoveries, those detained people will have to be released by tomorrow at the latest.
