Chapter 1466: Liu Chuxue's Foresight Before the First Snow
Liu Chuxue planned not only to grow chives in the house but also to ask Fu Yan Cheng to make a few wooden boxes in a few days, so she could plant some small spinach and other things then.
The purpose was simple: she wanted the unit leaders to know about this.
She knew there was a small farm belonging to the unit not far from the barracks; she didn't know if there was space to grow vegetables in greenhouses now, but the unit had the capability and the manpower, so she wanted to give it a try.
Most of the people at the small farm were unit families; if greenhouse vegetables were promoted, it would naturally bring in quite a bit more income and allow the soldiers to have a bite of fresh vegetables even in the dead of winter.
When each family's conditions improved, they wouldn't keep staring at other families' affairs; she didn't want to be guarding her space like a thief after her baby was born, secretly making good food for the children.
It would be better to help everyone while also preparing for the future for herself; wouldn't that be killing two birds with one stone?
The commotion on their side drew Tao Saozi over: "What are you all talking about that's so lively?"
After another round of introductions, Liu Chuxue finally mentioned that she wanted to try growing some fresh seedlings indoors to see if she could grow them in winter.
This piqued Tao Saozi's interest too: "If it really works, that would be a great thing; then we could change our taste occasionally even in winter."
Knowing that Seeing Fu Yanwan still had to catch the early bus back to Huicheng, Mo Ruhua and Tao Saozi didn't delay any further: "Alright, you two eat quickly; we'll be leaving now."
Seeing Fu Yanwan treated everyone equally, went to the kitchen to pack a few chive boxes, and handed them to Tao Saozi: "Sister-in-law, take these back for the children to taste."
Tao Saozi felt a bit embarrassed, but Liu Chuxue smiled and said: "Xiao Wan made quite a lot this morning; it was originally saved for her fourth brother, but it's just that our Yushan and Yurong were lucky enough."
With the words spoken to that extent, Tao Saozi didn't make a fuss; she thanked them and left with the chive boxes.
However, not long after, she returned with the bowl, which now held a bowl of small wontons: "It's not much; share it and taste it. This filling is made from wild vegetables I dried in early autumn."
Liu Chuxue knew Tao Saozi was a straightforward person: "Then we won't stand on ceremony with you, sister-in-law; I've been craving this myself."
Liu Chuxue wasn't lying; she really had been craving wontons.
She didn't eat it all by herself either; she gave a small portion each to her sister-in-law and Guo Yueliang, smiling with curved eyebrows and saying: "Just taste the flavor; the rest is mine."
Seeing her like that, both of them burst out laughing.
After finishing her meal, Seeing Fu Yanwan didn't even bother to help clean up: "Sister Jingjing, I'll leave the rest to you; I have to go now, or I'll miss the bus."
Guo Yueliang happily agreed and even joked: "No problem, leave it to me; I guarantee your fourth sister-in-law won't have to lift a finger."
The two of them saw her out the main gate, watched her walk away, and only then turned back into the courtyard.
Seeing Fu Yanwan, carrying big and small bags, arrived at the bus stop, and someone whispered: "Whose family member is that?"
"I know; she's the deputy regiment commander's sister. I happened to see the deputy regiment commander's wife come to pick someone up yesterday."
"Oh my, is she here to mooch off them?"
"They brought quite a lot of things when they came yesterday; what nonsense are you talking?"
"Coming to visit one's own brother and sister-in-law, bringing things is only proper; but taking so many things away is completely improper."
Hearing the woman's words, everyone took a step back and kept their distance from her.
The voices weren't hushed to begin with, so Seeing Fu Yanwan naturally heard them; instead of getting angry, she smiled and held up the things in her hands toward that woman: "What can I do? I have a good sister-in-law; this is something others can only envy."
