Chapter 1497: Suspect Discovered
After attending the younger aunt's wedding, the couple returned to the in-laws' home from the state-run hotel, stayed only a short while, then went back to pack and prepare to return to the military unit.
After boarding the bus, Liu Chuxue mentioned to Fu Yan Cheng: "Yan Cheng, is there a stonemason near our family compound?"
Though Fu Yan Cheng was somewhat puzzled, he still replied with a doting expression: "What do you need a stonemason for?"
Liu Chuxue looked out the window: "Snow is about to fall, and my belly has grown so large I can no longer go out; I thought I'd make some soy milk at home to boil and drink when I have nothing to do."
As she spoke, she gestured to Fu Yan Cheng: "It doesn't need to be too big; something this size will do."
Fu Yan Cheng smiled: "Alright, leave this to me; I'll help you then, and we'll taste the soy milk ground by our own hands."
Halfway through the journey, the bus stopped to let passengers on and off.
It was not a big matter, but as the woman who boarded walked toward the back, Liu Chuxue caught a faint scent of blood, which made her very uncomfortable.
She could not help but frown.
Fu Yan Cheng noticed her unease: "Wife, what's wrong?"
Liu Chuxue was about to shake her head and say "nothing," when the woman passed right by her; due to her seated angle, she saw the odd shape beneath the lifted hem of the woman's clothes.
Instinctively, she released her spiritual power to look.
After the woman sat down, Liu Chuxue confirmed her suspicion; she signaled Fu Yan Cheng with her eyes to lean closer and used lip movements to tell him there was danger.
Fu Yan Cheng knew his wife never spoke falsehoods, so his expression immediately grew serious.
After signaling Fu Yan Cheng with hand gestures, she kept watching the woman's every move, but even as the bus neared its final stop, the woman made no move, leaving Liu Chuxue very puzzled.
Finally, at an intersection still about two or three li from the military unit, the woman stood up.
Liu Chuxue reached out and gripped Fu Yan Cheng, reminding him that the woman was making a move.
Yet the woman still made no move; the couple watched helplessly as the woman got off the bus.
Liu Chuxue knew that woman was definitely up to something.
At first, when she smelled blood on her, she thought it might be the woman's special days; since her sense of smell was keen, detecting the scent of blood was normal, but to ensure safety, she had checked earlier and the woman was not on her period.
Just as she was wondering what to do next, she spotted a faint bloodstain at the place where the woman had alighted; though only a small mark, it was clear it was in the middle of a shoe.
It must have been caused by the force exerted when boarding; without close inspection, it would likely go unnoticed.
Liu Chuxue signaled Fu Yan Cheng with her eyes to look in that direction.
But Fu Yan Cheng did not understand; he leaned close to Liu Chuxue: "What did you find?"
Seeing the seat behind was empty, Liu Chuxue spoke softly: "There's a faint bloodstain near the bus door; it's only a small mark, but I'm sure it's in the middle of a shoe."
Fu Yan Cheng wanted to follow down, but he was worried about Liu Chuxue: "I'll take you home first, then bring people over to check."
Liu Chuxue whispered: "I'll go with you."
Fu Yan Cheng said sternly: "No, you're heavily pregnant now; it's too dangerous. Rest assured, that woman just got off and won't have gone far; I'll bring more people over then."
Liu Chuxue had to give in: "Alright then; when we get off, I'll go back by myself, and you can go straight to your duties; just be sure to stay safe."
Fu Yan Cheng did not refuse again: "Good."
After the bus reached the stop, Fu Yan Cheng watched Liu Chuxue enter the family compound, then ran toward the military unit.
