Chapter 1523: So We're Not Even Allowed to Speak Anymore?
She had thought that once the people walked past, it would be over, but before long, the noise started up again from outside: "Why should we be the ones to switch rooms? If anyone's switching, it should be you lot."
"This is a hospital. My daughter-in-law just gave birth today and needs rest. You've been cursing and carrying on nonstop—who could stand that? If you won't switch, then who will?"
"Exactly. You're disturbing everyone here. If you won't switch, then who will?"
The new mother on the bed clutched her wailing child, her face a picture of panic; her already pallid complexion had gone even paler, frightening to look at.
Seeing something was off with her, another new mother in the same room quickly called her family back, afraid that if something happened to this new mother later, they'd be the ones the family tried to extort.
Hearing the commotion, the nurse came in and hollered: "What's all this noise? This is a hospital, not a vegetable market."
The old lady was the first to protest: "It's not that we want to make a scene—it's them bullying people too much. Are we not even allowed to speak up?"
The young nurse glared right at the old lady: "Enough, say a few words less. You've been cursing the whole way here, and now you're in the ward still cursing. We can't even stand listening to it, let alone the families."
The old lady glanced at the others in the ward: "Nurse, could you help us switch to a different room?"
The young nurse's face darkened at once: "Don't say there are no empty beds—even if there were, if you can't keep your mouth in check, whichever ward you switch to will probably still find you a nuisance."
After saying that, the young nurse turned and headed out of the ward, and at the doorway turned back to remind them: "Stop cursing, you hear me?"
The new mother on the bed secretly lifted her head, her eyes full of gratitude as she looked at the nurse.
When dinnertime came and everyone was eating, the old lady still hadn't calmed down and hadn't prepared any food for her daughter-in-law. The new mother stole several glances at the old lady, only to hear the old lady say unkindly: "I've got no money, no coupons—don't look at me."
The young daughter-in-law's eyes instantly reddened, and she didn't dare lift her head again.
In the next ward, Xiao Guo came in carrying the dinner Aunt Wei had carefully prepared: "Deputy Regiment, take it quick. Aunt Wei made fish soup noodles for sis-in-law. Eat it now before it gets soggy—I ran all the way here."
After saying that, he handed over another basket: "This is the braised dish I brought for you and Auntie. Eaten with those soft, fluffy steamed buns—it's really delicious."
It had to be said, Aunt Wei's cooking was genuinely excellent.
The three babies were truly very well-behaved. Liu Chuxue's milk hadn't come in yet, so after mixing formula and feeding them, the three little ones fell asleep again—very easy on the mind.
Fu Yan Cheng, while serving rice for his wife, said to his own mother: "Mom, eat first. Otherwise, if they wake up later, you won't even get to eat."
Fu's mother was still buzzing with excitement: "It's fine. If they wake up, I'll just hold them and soothe them. I'm happy to."
Liu Chuxue's lips curved slightly: "Mom, don't be too optimistic just yet."
Fu Yan Cheng finished ladling out the fish soup noodles: "Wife, should I feed you, or will you eat on your own?"
After a nap, she was in much better spirits now. Giving birth hadn't caused her much suffering, and on top of that, she had secretly added some of the spatial pool water to her drinking water earlier, so her body was already fine: "I'll eat on my own."
Her mother-in-law was still right here—she certainly didn't want Fu Yan Cheng to feed her.
Fu Yan Cheng held the bowl steady from underneath: "I'll hold it for you. You just eat."
Liu Chuxue felt a bit awkward: "I'll hold it myself. You go eat quickly, or it'll get cold and won't taste good."
She could smell that meat had been added to the braised dish. Coming all the way from the family quarters, if they didn't eat soon it really would go cold.
Just as they were eating happily, the ward door was pushed open from outside, and all three people in the room looked over.
