Chapter 1616: Serves You Right for Being So Mouthy

~4 min read 682 words

Fu Yanwan quietly recounted the whole story, and Fu's mother immediately frowned: "Where is Ren Jiangfeng?"

Fu Yanwan glanced out the door: "He went to the water room to fetch hot water; I asked him to soak the diapers Qingbao changed earlier while he was there."

Fu's mother shot her a sharp look: "Hospitals are crowded with all sorts of eyes and ears. You didn't let him stay by your side, yet you're soaking diapers? You really can't tell what's important."

Scolded by her own mother, Fu Yanwan didn't get angry: "Right, right, right, I was wrong. Mom, don't be angry; isn't Fourth Sister-in-law here keeping me company?"

Liu Chuxue tugged at Fu's mother's sleeve: "Mom, stop being angry. Hurry and make her eat; my nephew is still waiting for his meal."

Hearing what the fourth daughter-in-law said, and then looking at her little grandson's sleeping face, Fu's mother rolled her eyes at her own daughter: "No sense at all. I'm too lazy to argue with you."

Just as she ladled a bowl of chicken soup and handed it to her daughter, her son-in-law entered the ward: "Mom, Fourth Sister-in-law, you've arrived?"

Although it wasn't Ren Jiangfeng's fault, he still got caught in the crossfire.

Fu's mother rolled her eyes at him too: "Didn't I say not to leave the ward? You must keep a close watch on the two of them!"

Ren Jiangfeng looked utterly confused: "Mom, what happened?"

Saying this, he leaned close to Fu Yanwan: "Wife, what's wrong with Mom?"

Fu Yanwan quietly repeated what had happened earlier: "It's fine. Mom isn't angry at you; she's just worried about us."

Hearing his wife's words, Ren Jiangfeng's face was filled with self-reproach: "Mom, it's my fault. I didn't listen to you. I shouldn't have..."

He couldn't finish his sentence; it wouldn't do to say: "I shouldn't have listened to my own wife, right?"

Liu Chuxue couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing: "Enough. This isn't your fault. Besides, I've arrived at just the right time. Don't blame yourself."

He coughed lightly: "I thought nothing could happen in broad daylight, but indeed, I was wrong. Fourth Sister-in-law, don't make excuses for me."

Fu Yanwan, fearing he'd say more and force her to coax him, quickly changed the subject: "Enough. We've stayed here one night already. Go find the doctor; if everything's fine, let's check out and go home. That way, those blind fools won't cause us more trouble."

She hadn't been angry originally, but seeing that woman make her own mother and her own husband unhappy made her unhappy too.

Fu's mother swept a cold glance at the new mother in the adjacent bed: "Xiao Wan is right. If possible, let's check out and go home, so we don't get sick from those thoughtless people's anger."

Hearing Fu's mother's veiled insult, that new mother opened her mouth to speak, but her husband quickly covered her mouth with his hand.

That press landed exactly on the spot where she'd been slapped earlier; the piercing pain nearly made the woman faint again.

Her mother-in-law thought she was doing it on purpose and immediately misunderstood: "What's wrong now? You just gave birth and you're already a sickly person? Fainting at the slightest touch—trying to scare whom?"

The family of the new mother in the outermost bed also looked down on that woman, thinking she was just faking it; their disdainful glances were caught by the woman, making her even angrier.

Others didn't know, but Liu Chuxue did; the corner of her mouth naturally curved upward: Serves you right for being so mouthy.

Ren Jiangfeng went out and returned: "I asked. The Physician said to observe a bit longer; if the afternoon check-up when they're on duty shows nothing wrong, we can check out."

Fu's mother had calmed down by then; hearing her son-in-law's words, she smiled: "Fine. Then this afternoon I'll borrow the tricycle from your Uncle Qiao's family next door and push Guoqing home."

Fu Yanwan stopped drinking her chicken soup: "Mom, now that you have a grandson, you're pushing me aside?"
