Chapter 1665: The Stubborn Little Stone
Many from the clan came over to help.
After they entered the courtyard, Xiao Fu introduced each of them one by one.
Everyone responded with bright smiles.
At noon, besides those helping, there were also village cadres and respected elders from the clan, filling three tables.
While eating, Xiao Fu said to them: "After the meal, I will take you on a good tour of the village to familiarize yourselves with it.
Tomorrow morning, I will take you to visit the graves; after we return, let the clan head write Chuxue and her three siblings into the family register."
This made Liu Chuxue quite surprised, for in this era women held no status on the family register; many had only their surnames written, and in some places girls could not be entered at all.
Xiao Fu might have seen their confusion: "Ancestral rules state that girls with great abilities will be entered into the family register; if they have special renown, a separate page may even be opened for them.
Grandpa does hope you will reach that day."
The village was not large; it did not take long to finish the tour. Everyone was very hospitable; as they passed by, someone would hand over a tomato or offer a cucumber.
Their large family walked and stopped, while a few children ran about freely.
Early the next morning, except for the small children who did not go, Xiao Fu led both branches of the family up the mountain together.
This was their first visit to pay respects since the grave relocation.
After placing offerings, they approached one by one to pay their respects. Then they heard Xiao Fu say: "Han Chunyi, I have brought the children to see you. Rest assured, they are all doing well. Our second son's two granddaughters passed the university entrance exam this year, which can be seen as carrying on your legacy."
By the time they descended the mountain, the clan elders were already waiting at home.
Their names were recorded in the family register.
Thus, all matters concerning this return were now concluded, and they only awaited the return trip in the afternoon.
When leaving, many villagers came to see them off and gave them plenty of vegetables and fruits, causing Liu Chuxue's eyes to suddenly fill with tears.
Though the village was small, the human warmth was strong, and everyone was very simple and honest.
The little ones did not want to leave; one cried, and the others followed suit. After coaxing them for a long while, they were finally got into the car, with promises that they would be brought back again in the future.
These past two days, the little ones had caused no small amount of trouble, whether chasing people's chicks or catching small fish in the river; they had simply gone mad with play.
Yet no one expected that Little Stone would cling to Grandpa and Auntie Miao, refusing to let go, insisting they get into the car; he was truly heartbroken, tears and snot streaming all over his face.
This made the two elderly people ache with pity.
Miao Yiqiu took out a handkerchief to wipe his face: "Little Stone, be good. Once Grandpa and Auntie finish matters here, we will return to the city to stay with you, okay?"
Little Stone's small head was very sharp: "No, no, go home."
Xiao Fu could no longer bear to watch; with the whole car waiting on him, he snatched the child up and handed him into the car: "If we don't leave now, it will be dark and the road will be hard to travel. If you don't settle down, next time we return, we won't bring you."
Upon hearing that he wouldn't be brought along, Little Stone cried even more heartbreakingly.
Not knowing what he was thinking, he shouted directly: "Grandpa, save me! I want to stay here and live with you!"
This left everyone stunned.
But the little one was truly serious; he stretched out his hand toward the old man, shouting continuously: "Stay! I want to stay!"
Xiao Fu's eyes reddened, and he glanced at his wife beside him.
Miao Yiqiu approached the car: "Lamei, how about I let Little Stone stay here for a few days? Whenever he misses you, we can come back and fetch him."
Xiao Mu was now in a dilemma; she cherished her son as her own eyes. Without her son by her side, how could she feel at ease?
Yet seeing the child's stance, if they did not let him stay, there would likely be more tantrums.
In the end, Xiao Fu made the decision: "Very well, if you want to stay, then stay. I will come back in a few days to fetch you."
