Chapter 1696: Drink This Water Down, and Today's Matter Is Considered Closed

~4 min read 789 words

When Jiang Wenxing looked over, he caught the flash of sharpness that vanished in an instant in Bai Suya's eyes: "Bai Suya, the two of our thermoses do look alike on the outside, but I've stuck my name on mine — you couldn't have missed it, could you?"

Tuck away that little scheme of yours, and don't take me for a fool. I don't care why you used my water — right now, immediately, at once, go fetch me back some hot water."

Bai Suya's face was full of difficulty: "Jiang Wenxing, I just washed my hair, it's freezing outside, and the hot-water room is so far away. Could we work something out? You use the water in my thermos first, and tomorrow I'll definitely fill yours up for you. Would that work?"

Jiang Wenxing was a stubborn person: "No way. Don't think I don't know what you're up to — you just wanted to wash your hair but were too lazy to trek over to the hot-water room, so you deliberately grabbed the wrong thermos. Your character really isn't much to speak of."

At her words, the color drained from Bai Suya's face in an instant: "Jiang Wenxing, I just grabbed the wrong thermos — do you have to escalate this into a question of my character?"

Fine, I'll go fetch the water for you right now, happy?"

Once Bai Suya finished speaking, she sped up the pace and force of toweling her hair, then put on a thick cotton-padded coat, wrapped her head in a scarf, and simply picked up the thermos and headed outside.

Jiang Wenxing wasn't wrong at all — she was simply lazy, and didn't want to make another trip to the water room in the freezing cold. But after three days on the road, her scalp was itching terribly, and if she didn't wash it, she was afraid she wouldn't even be able to sleep that night.

But the water in her own thermos was down to the last dregs. Seeing that the thermos beside her was full, a scheme flashed through her mind, and she simply took that full thermos of boiled water and headed off to the water room.

Her own background was already a bit problematic; in previous years she had lived every single day on edge. The moment she heard Jiang Wenxing bring up the matter of her family background, she was truly scared.

She was simply too guilty at heart — better to hurry up and fetch her a thermos of water and let the matter rest.

She also reminded herself to keep her distance from Jiang Wenxing in the future — this kind of person was not easy to provoke.

But this Bai Suya's character really wasn't much to speak of. After filling the thermos and leaving the water room, she looked around and, seeing no one, not only spat into Jiang Wenxing's thermos but also pinched a small pinch of dirt from the ground and dropped it in: "Hope it kills you."

When she returned to the dormitory, she put Jiang Wenxing's thermos back in the designated spot: "Jiang Wenxing, I've fetched the water back. I'm really sorry for holding up your malted-milk mix."

The moment her words fell, Jiang Wenxing unexpectedly picked up the thermos that belonged to her, then took Bai Suya's enamel mug and poured her a cup straight away: "Drink this water down."

Bai Suya's body instantly stiffened. Bracing herself, she said: "Jiang Wenxing, I fetched this water back for you — are you not going to let this go?"

Jiang Wenxing paid no heed to whatever she said, only one sentence: "Drink this water down, and today's matter is considered closed."

Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the two of them.

Guo Jingchun, who slept in the bunk above Bai Suya, spoke up: "Suya, it's just a cup of water — hurry up and drink it and be done with it."

Tang Xiaoxiao was a sharp one. She seemed to have caught on to something, though she didn't show it on her face; inwardly, with a hint of schadenfreude, she said: "Suya, we all live in the same dormitory — little frictions are unavoidable. Jiang Wenxing has already said it: drink this water and what just happened is over. From now on, let's all get along well together."

Bai Suya was now regretting it to death. Had she known, she wouldn't have spat into the water or put dirt in it. She stared fixedly at that cup of water: "Classmate Wenxing, I'm sincerely apologizing to you. If you still feel you haven't vented enough, I'll fetch water for you for a whole week from now on. Would that work?"
