Chapter 1744: Darling, How Does That Little Head of Yours Work?
Aunt Wei came over with a smile: "These three little ones have been wandering around the village with me, waiting for you to come pick them up, but by the time we were heading back, there was still no sign of you."
Liu Chuxue heard this and kissed each of the three little ones in turn: "Mommy's babies, I'm so sorry."
For dinner that evening, they had the braised stew the others had brought back as an extra dish, so it was a simple meal.
Liu Chuxue had originally planned to go help, but Aunt Wei pushed her back out: "Tonight's meal is simple, and you've finally come back—take the three of them out for a stroll. When you get back, we'll eat."
Wei Wenbin, seeing someone was watching the triplets: "Grandma, I'm going out too, I'll be back in a bit."
Aunt Wei didn't stop him either: "Fine, but no more than an hour, don't stay out too late."
Wei Wenbin agreed with a smile, then turned to the triplets and said: "Tomorrow, big brother will take you out to play again."
Lebao was the most understanding of all: "Mm-hmm, big brother, go find your friends, we won't hold you back."
Liu Chuxue hadn't expected her daughter to be so clever—not only knowing that Wenbin was going to find friends, but even able to say something like "we won't hold you back": "Darling, how does that little head of yours work? Who taught you to talk like that?"
Lebao heard her mother's words and giggled happily: "I thought of it myself, nobody taught me."
Fu Yan Cheng thought of Ma Wuliang: "Let's go, I'll come with you. We can swing by the tube-shaped apartment building to check on Ma Wuliang and see how his moving-in is going."
Liu Chuxue thought of something: "He only just got promoted to company commander, and his family already qualifies to come along with the army?"
Fu Yan Cheng called out to the triplets: "Let's go, mom and dad are taking you out for a stroll."
After calling out, he turned and took Liu Chuxue's hand: "Originally he wasn't eligible—his rank and years of service both fell short. But his wife Jiang Xiaofang is the daughter of a martyr, and she has almost no family left. The local Armed Forces Department called our side and specifically explained the situation, so the army made a special accommodation."
What he didn't mention was that Jiang Xiaofang had offended a powerful clan over there because she passed information to the public security bureau, and people kept going to her home to harass her—life back in her hometown was very hard for her.
When Ma Wuliang went home on leave for a blind date, he didn't take a fancy to his match. Then he ran into the Armed Forces Department bringing Jiang Xiaofang to meet someone, and the other party's mother belittled Jiang Xiaofang, saying she had a hard fate—otherwise she wouldn't have become an orphan.
The Armed Forces Department clerk was so angry he wanted to curse, and Ma Wuliang couldn't stand by and watch, so he stepped in to help her out. After that, the two of them actually took a liking to each other—it was fate, in a way.
When the two of them arrived, Ma Wuliang was hauling coal upstairs; "Regimental commander, sister-in-law, what brings you here?"
Fu Yan Cheng stepped forward: "I brought them over early to get familiar with the place, to see how you've got things set up."
Ma Wuliang grinned sheepishly: "Thank you, regimental commander and sister-in-law, for your concern. I'm pretty much set up here. Xiaofang is tidying up upstairs—come on, come on, let's go up and sit for a while."
Someone who saw Fu Yan Cheng and the others came up to greet them: "Commander Fu, is this taking your wife and kids out for a stroll?"
Fu Yan Cheng gave the man a slight nod: "I used to serve alongside Ma Company Commander's brother-in-law, and we got along pretty well. Now that Xiaofang has no family left, our family counts as her maternal relatives."
He had originally meant to take his wife and children out to show off, but when he thought of Jiang Xiaofang, he changed his mind—it worked out perfectly, two birds with one stone.
He really wasn't talking through his hat—he had gone on missions shoulder to shoulder with Jiang Xiaofang's brother, a man who doted on his sister and never missed a chance to brag about her.
