Chapter 1815: Reminder
Liu Chuxue stood her ground: "If you're going to say it, say it here. If not, I'll take you to the Gongan Bureau."
The woman, seeing Liu Chuxue wouldn't budge, had no choice: "I'll say it here."
The woman was the wife of a former colleague who had bullied Xiao Fu; she believed her husband's arrest was due to Xiao Fu's actions, so she had long sought an opportunity to retaliate against the Xiao family.
Finally, she found her chance.
Hearing the woman's words, Xiao Fu's face turned grim: "If you think I ruined your husband, then I have no reason to show you mercy."
Xiao Fu called several neighbors, and together they escorted her to the Gongan Bureau.
After the truth came out, all the women who had gossiped about Xiao Mu fell silent.
Xiao Mu, grateful that Liu Chuxue had so swiftly uncovered the person behind the attack on her, said: "Liu Chuxue, stay for dinner tonight."
Since Xiao Mu had extended the invitation, Liu Chuxue did not refuse: "Alright."
As they entered the courtyard, Fu Yan Cheng said: "Shi Tou's finally acting like an uncle—he's got the three little ones well in hand."
Xiao Mu now felt a wave of dread; thank goodness luck had been on their side today—the child had only suffered minor injuries. If it had been serious, neither she nor the child's parents would ever forgive themselves, and the neighborhood relations would never recover.
Not long after, Xiao Fu returned and saw the worry and fear on his wife's face: "Don't be afraid—the matter is settled. She brought it on herself; we didn't wrong her."
Xiao Mu realized he was right: if someone came to harm her and her family, she had no reason to be soft.
After eating dinner at the Xiao home, Liu Chuxue and Fu Yan Cheng prepared to go home.
As they stepped out, Liu Chuxue turned to Xiao Fu and asked: "Chunxiao hasn't come home this late—you should seriously ask her about it. Don't wait until something happens and regret it."
Xiao Fu paused at her words, then realized they were true: "I understand. I'll ask her when she gets home tonight."
Time flew by, and before they knew it, it was the twelfth lunar month.
That day, as Liu Chuxue arrived at school, she heard Fu Yanyan's voice behind her: "Liu Chuxue, the exam is next week—after the holiday, can I come over to see the triplets?"
Liu Chuxue found it strange: Fu Yanyan was obsessed with the triplets, visiting their home every so often, always bringing gifts: "Sure. Come after the exam—I'll cook you something delicious."
Fu Yanyan beamed, though she pretended to protest: "You make it sound like I only come over because I'm greedy for food."
Liu Chuxue laughed: "Fine, fine—the triplets are your real reason. Happy now? If you like kids so much, just find someone who shares your feelings and get married."
Fu Yanyan rolled her eyes at Liu Chuxue: "I'd love to—but who'd have me?"
The two laughed as they walked toward the classroom.
Thinking of the upcoming exam, Fu Yanyan sighed enviously: "How are you so lucky? You've got a man who sees nothing but you, and now you're carrying his child—"
And on top of that, why is your memory so good? We can't even catch up to your study pace. If it weren't for the triplets and our friendship, I'd be jealous of you."
No sooner had she finished than Hao Jingchun's voice cut in: "Even if you're jealous, it won't help—we're not even on the same level as Xiao the academic genius. All you can do is admire her."
Suddenly, someone laughed out loud—the three turned to look, and everyone's eyes widened.
