Chapter 1831: Your Son and Daughter Still Did You Proud and Avenged You

~4 min read 736 words

With many hands, the work was quickly done; Liu Chuxue had the three grown men outside grilling the meat.

She called the women, including Auntie Wei, plus the half-grown boy Wei Wenbin and the three little ones, into the living room: "Let's eat first; let them busy themselves."

Wang Mengzhen was the first to clap in agreement: "I think that's a good idea. He's been acting like a master at home every day; today let him have a proper lesson."

Hearing his wife's words from the yard, Kong Yizhang nudged Fu Yan Cheng, who was grilling, with his elbow: "Brother, you're setting me up. Every time I gather with you, I can't rest easy when I get home."

Fu Yan Cheng turned his head slightly and gave Kong Yizhang a white-eyed look: "You got scolded, yet instead of looking at your own faults, you're dragging me into it. In a moment I'll go tell your wife to give you a proper scolding."

Seeing the boy's expression, Kong Yizhang immediately backed down: "No, no, no. Leave a little face for your big brother."

Fu Yan Cheng signaled with his eyes that the meat skewers in his hand needed flipping: "Keep grilling like that and they'll burn. I don't have that many skewers for you to waste."

Kong Yizhang returned a white-eyed look: "Say you're tough, and you really start puffing up."

So while the two grilled meat with their hands, their legs were locked in a fight.

Fu Bao had just prepared to check if the skewers were done; as soon as he reached the doorway, he saw the scene: "Dad, Uncle Kong, what are you two doing?"

Hearing that little milky voice, everyone rose and looked out the window, seeing the two still entangled in a leg fight.

Wang Mengzhen had clearly seen this situation many times before: "Don't mind them; they're at it again because they disagree."

Having spoken, she shouted toward the two still awkward in the yard: "Fight all you want, but don't delay our grilled meat, or I'll come out and deal with you. How old are you, still acting childish like kids?"

The two fighting outside quickly retracted their legs and rapidly flipped the skewers in their hands: "Almost done; we'll bring them in right away."

Now neither blamed the other; both quickened their hand movements.

Song Sanrui, who was tidying up nearby, brought over a plate: "Every day you say Brother Fu is afraid of his wife, but it turns out Brother Kong, you're the same."

As he spoke, he started laughing.

Now Fu Yan Cheng and Kong Yizhang both gave him a white-eyed look at the same time: "As if you're not afraid of your wife."

Though the three voices were low, they could be heard clearly inside the room.

Everyone turned to look at Gu Xiaomi, who was heavily pregnant; especially Wang Mengzhen and Liu Chuxue kept winking and making faces at her.

Finally, Auntie Wei couldn't stand it anymore: "Enough. Don't you see Xiaomi's face is all red? You two..."

But before Auntie Wei could finish, Fu Bao cut in: "Or else Uncle Song's arm might suffer."

At first no one understood what he meant; Liu Chuxue looked at her son, about to ask, when she heard Le Bao's milky voice continue: "Exactly. If you keep talking, Auntie Xiaomi will twist Uncle Song's arm again. Every time, Uncle Song begs for mercy in pain."

Kong Yizhang, who was just about to come in to serve the grilled skewers, heard every word of this and laughed so hard he stomped his feet at the doorway: "Yan Cheng, your son and daughter are still the most reliable; they've avenged you."

Everyone inside and outside burst into laughter, including the principals Gu Xiaomi and Song Sanrui. They hadn't expected that the occasional flirting between the two had been seen by the children and spread around like this.

Zhang Yanyan and Hao Jingchun came today not only to enjoy the delicious food but also nearly laughed their stomachs out.

After playing with the triplets all afternoon, if they hadn't hitched a ride back to school with Wang Mengzhen and the others, they would have been kept by Liu Chuxue to eat dinner before returning to school.

However, winter days grow dark early; for safety's sake, Liu Chuxue didn't insist on keeping them, though the triplets were reluctant to let them leave.
