Chapter 1839: Guess Who I Met a Few Days Ago
Liu Chuxue did not refute her sister-in-law's words; instead, she smiled and replied, "You guessed right. I'm craving that bite too. As a reward, you can feast along with me."
Fu's mother watched the two sisters-in-law banter back and forth, her face full of smiles.
Guo Wenjing was somewhat envious of the way the fourth sister-in-law and the younger sister got along; they were like friends, never avoiding any topic in their conversation.
Seeing it was getting late, Liu Chuxue looked at Guo Wenjing: "Eldest sister-in-law, let's go. I brought plenty of ingredients; today we'll properly nourish everyone."
Guo Wenjing liked this generous and low-maintenance sister-in-law very much: "Your eldest brother also bought some cooked meats. You arrange it; I'll assist you."
Liu Chuxue was not shy: "Alright."
When the two arrived at the kitchen, Fu Yanming was steaming rice.
Seeing them enter, he said, "Mom steamed a pot of two-grain buns last night. Thinking all the children are here today, I steamed some rice as well."
Guo Wenjing smiled: "You are very thoughtful."
The kitchen was bustling with activity: sugar-dressed cabbage hearts, radish dipped in sesame paste, cold-mixed pig head meat, fried geza with cold dressing, cold-mixed kelp strips and peanuts, pickled vegetable fish, radish stewed with pork ribs, cabbage stewed with vermicelli and pork belly, and fried lotus root cakes.
Every dish was generous in portion; truly, with so many people and big appetites, preparing less would risk not having enough to eat.
After putting the ribs on to stew first, the two sisters-in-law prepared the other dishes when they heard Hao Yanhong's loud voice enter the courtyard: "Mom, sorry, I'm back late again; I simply couldn't find anyone to cover my shift."
Hao Yanhong was very satisfied with her current life; the job was easy and respectable, and the benefits were good. With life improving, her personality had changed a lot too.
Fu's mother saw the things she was carrying in her hands and thought: Finally, she's learned some sense.
It wasn't that she lacked those few things; it was that with so many sons, the other families all brought something, while their family always returned with nothing but their heads on their shoulders to mooch a meal. Over time, even if the other families didn't say anything, they must have harbored some resentment in their hearts.
Fu's mother called out to little Guoqing standing on the ground: "Greet them."
The little one smiled first, then called out in a crisp voice: "Hello, Second Aunt."
After Hao Yanhong responded, she smiled, reached out to pat Guoqing's head, then pulled a piece of fruit candy from her pocket: "Our Qingbao really has a sweet mouth. Here, Second Aunt gives you candy."
The little one accepted it generously: "Thank you, Second Aunt."
At this moment, Fu Yan Cheng had also finished talking with the triplets and came out of the side room with them.
The three little ones did not need anyone to remind them; they shouted in unison: "Hello, Second Eldest Aunt."
Hao Yanhong smiled at the three of them: "Come, come, I have candy here; one piece each to sweeten your mouths."
This gesture made people look at her with new respect; Fu's mother and Fu Yan Cheng exchanged a glance, both feeling that Hao Yanhong was being a bit too enthusiastic.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with Fu Yan Cheng, Hao Yanhong said to her mother-in-law: "Mom, I'll go help in the kitchen."
She even held up the bag in her hand: "I brought a roasted duck back to satisfy everyone's cravings."
Having finished speaking, she entered the kitchen.
The kitchen space was limited; with her added, it was a bit cramped to turn around. Fu Yanming's tasks were nearly done, so he made room for her.
The three sisters-in-law chatted there, here and there.
Hao Yanhong thought of something and said mysteriously: "Guess who I met a few days ago?"
Seeing her like that, Guo Wenjing casually remarked: "Don't tell me you ran into Zhang Yurong's maternal family again?"
Hao Yanhong let out an "Ah!" and said: "Eldest sister-in-law, you're amazing!
The day before yesterday, I had just sat down at my workstation when I heard someone at the neighboring workstation buying a train ticket to Jin City. It sounded familiar, so I looked up, and sure enough, it was an acquaintance."
