Chapter 1842: Even your daughter

~4 min read 769 words

Mother Xiao ushered the children into the house: "You all wait inside, I’ll go get the red date cakes for you."

Liu Chuxue followed her directly into the kitchen: "What time are you going to pick up Junjun?"

Mother Xiao smiled: "Soon, in another half hour, I’ll go pick him up."

Liu Chuxue glanced at her wrist: "We’ll go pick him up today. You stay home and prepare the meal; we’ll have a meal with Junjun and then head back to the base."

Mother Xiao paused: "You’re leaving today?"

Liu Chuxue took the freshly steamed red date cakes from her hands: "Yan Cheng took his leave today to pick us up. We’re leaving later, but we have to get back tonight."

Upon hearing this, Mother Xiao said: "Alright, it’s good that the buns I steamed at noon are still good. I’ll quickly stir-fry two dishes and boil some red adzuki bean porridge."

Liu Chuxue carried the red date cakes into the house: "Go wash your hands with Daddy. You can only eat one small piece each for now, or you won't be able to eat dinner."

The little ones were obedient; they all ran toward the washbasin stand on the wall with their hands outstretched, shouting: "Daddy, wash hands."

After washing his hands, Fu Bao trotted over: "Mom, where’s Uncle?"

Liu Chuxue divided the red date cakes for them: "After you finish the red date cakes, we’ll go pick up Uncle together."

Hearing they were going to pick up Uncle, all three little ones shouted: "Go pick up Uncle, go pick up Uncle."

Fu Yan Cheng was holding a towel and about to wipe his daughter’s hands when the little one shook the water off her hands onto his face: "Daughter, stop jumping, let me wipe your hands first."

Seeing the little water droplets on her father’s face, Le Bao laughed loudly, standing on tiptoe and reaching out: "Daddy, bend down, I’ll wipe it for you."

Fu Yan Cheng obediently bent down: "My daughter is still the best to me."

Liu Chuxue had just handed the red date cakes to her two sons, letting them sit on the stools to eat, when she turned and heard the conversation between Fu Yan Cheng and her daughter. She couldn't help but curl her lip and say: "Even your daughter’s farts are fragrant."

Fu Yan Cheng smiled at his wife: "At any rate, I don't find them smelly."

Mother Xiao walked in just in time to hear this: "You’re a mother, how can you talk like that?"

Fu Yan Cheng, fearing his mother-in-law would say more, interjected: "Mom, Chuxue is just joking with us."

Mother Xiao wanted to say something else, but seeing Fu Yan Cheng pulling Le Bao in front of Liu Chuxue, she didn't want to be a nuisance: "Bring back some garlic when you pick up Shitou."

Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "Understood."

Seeing Mother Xiao leave the courtyard, Fu Yan Cheng placed his daughter on a stool to eat her red date cake and leaned into Liu Chuxue’s ear: "I helped you just now, wife, how do you plan to repay me?"

Liu Chuxue raised her hand and gave his arm a swat: "In front of the children, stop being so cheeky."

Fu Yan Cheng reached out, took a piece of red date cake, and held it out to Liu Chuxue: "You eat a piece to pad your stomach, too."

The recipe for these red date cakes was something Liu Chuxue had taught Mother Xiao.

She took the red date cake Fu Yan Cheng offered and tasted it: "Hmm, the flavor is alright."

Fu Yan Cheng leaned in and took a bite from the spot where she had bitten: "Not as delicious as the ones you make, the flavor... but this flavor is also alright."

Liu Chuxue shot him a sidelong glance, and hearing footsteps in the courtyard, she rolled her eyes at Fu Yan Cheng: "You’re quite quick with your reactions."

Fu Yan Cheng firmly refused to admit it: "I’m stating a fact; Mother-in-law isn't as generous with the ingredients as you are."

Liu Chuxue split the piece in her hand in two, one piece going into her own mouth and the other into Fu Yan Cheng’s: "Eat up and go pick up Shitou."

She had no shortage of red dates in her own space, so naturally, she didn't feel the pinch. That her mother was willing to make these red date cakes even when it wasn't a holiday or festival was already a significant improvement.

After all, she had struggled through bitter times. ===== CHAPTER 1848 =====
