Chapter 1847: Your Daughter's Farts Smell Sweet
Xiao Mu beckoned the children into the house: "Go inside and wait; I'll get you some red date cakes."
Liu Chuxue followed straight into the kitchen: "What time are we picking up Junjun?"
Xiao Mu smiled: "Soon. In another half hour, I'll go pick him up."
Liu Chuxue glanced at her wrist: "Today we'll pick him up. You stay home and prepare the meal. We'll have dinner with Junjun, then head back to the barracks."
Xiao Mu paused: "You're leaving today?"
Liu Chuxue took the freshly steamed red date cakes from her hands: "Fu Yan Cheng took today off to come pick us up. We'll leave a bit later, but we must get back tonight."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Mu said: "Fine. The buns I steamed at noon are still good. I'll quickly stir-fry two dishes and cook some red bean porridge."
Liu Chuxue carried the red date cakes into the room: "Follow Dad to wash your hands. In a moment, each of you gets only one small piece, or you won't be able to eat dinner."
The little ones were obedient; all stretched out their hands and ran toward the washstand by the wall, shouting, "Dad, wash hands!"
Fu Bao washed her hands and trotted over: "Mom, where's Uncle?"
Liu Chuxue handed out the red date cakes: "After you finish the red date cakes, we'll all go pick up Uncle together."
Upon hearing they were going to pick up Uncle, all three little ones shouted: "Go pick up Uncle! Go pick up Uncle!"
Fu Yan Cheng held Mao Jin, about to wipe his daughter's hands, but the little one flicked water from her hands all over his face: "Daughter, stop jumping right away and wipe your hands first."
Seeing the tiny water droplets on Dad's face, Lebao laughed loudly, stood on tiptoe, and stretched out her hands: "Dad, bend down; I'll wipe it for you."
Fu Yan Cheng obediently bent down: "My daughter is the one who treats me best."
Liu Chuxue had just handed red date cakes to her two sons and told them to sit on the stools to eat. Turning around, she heard Fu Yan Cheng's conversation with his daughter and couldn't help but pout: "Your daughter could fart and it would smell sweet."
Fu Yan Cheng smiled at his wife: "Anyway, I don't mind the smell."
Xiao Mu entered the room just in time to hear this: "You're the mother; how can you speak like that?"
Fu Yan Cheng, fearing his mother-in-law might say more, said: "Mom, Liu Chuxue is just joking with us."
Xiao Mu wanted to say something else, but seeing Fu Yan Cheng actually pull Lebao over to Liu Chuxue, she didn't want to incur their displeasure: "When you pick up Shi Tou back, bring some garlic with you."
Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "Understood."
Seeing Xiao Mu leave the courtyard, Fu Yan Cheng set his daughter on a stool to eat the red date cakes, then leaned close to Liu Chuxue's ear: "I just helped you; how does my wife plan to repay me?"
Liu Chuxue raised her hand and smacked his arm: "Don't be so cheeky in front of the children."
Fu Yan Cheng reached out, took a piece of red date cake, and held it out to Liu Chuxue: "You eat one too, to tide you over."
The recipe for these red date cakes was one Liu Chuxue had taught Xiao Mu.
She took the red date cake Fu Yan Cheng offered, took a bite, and said: "Mm, the taste is acceptable."
Fu Yan Cheng took a bite from the spot she had bitten, using her hand: "It's not as good as what you make, wife. The taste... well, this taste is still acceptable."
Liu Chuxue glanced at him sideways, then hearing footsteps in the courtyard, rolled her eyes at Fu Yan Cheng: "Your reaction is quite fast."
Fu Yan Cheng flatly refused to admit it: "I'm stating facts. Mother-in-law isn't as generous with ingredients as you are."
Liu Chuxue split the piece in her hand into two; one went into her own mouth, the other into Fu Yan Cheng's: "After eating, go pick up Shi Tou."
Her space had no shortage of red dates, so she used them without hesitation. That her mother was willing to make these red date cakes even when it wasn't a festival or New Year was already a significant improvement.
After all, she had endured hard times.
