Chapter 216: What Do These People Intend to Do?
Soon, the public security officers and soldiers escorted the arrested individuals away, and three soldiers boarded the bus where Liu Chuxue was seated.
Immediately, someone asked curiously, "Comrade, what crime did those arrested people commit?"
The soldier being questioned sat up straight and replied, "Comrade, **classified information, no comment."
Upon hearing this, everyone dared not make another sound.
Fortunately, summer had already arrived, so the smashed bus door did not hinder travel, and they soon reached Liu Chuxue's stop.
When she disembarked, those soldiers even helped carry her backpack basket down from the bus, greatly increasing her favorable impression of the military.
By the time she returned home, dusk had fallen; just as she reached the village entrance, she saw Chunxiao running over with Zhui Feng: "Second Sister, why are you only just back? Mom was worried sick."
Speaking, Chunxiao also tried to take the backpack basket from her: "It's fine; the scheduled bus broke down on the road, and it was only just repaired with great difficulty."
Hearing this, Chunxiao exclaimed, "Ah, your luck is truly unmatched; you actually encountered something like this?"
While the two sisters were talking, Zhui Feng wagged his tail and kept barking at Liu Chuxue: "Zhui Feng, what's wrong? Are you worried about me too?"
Upon hearing these words, Zhui Feng wagged his tail even more joyfully, his expression resembling a child acting spoiled, which was truly adorable: "Come, let's go home."
Remembering that a well was being dug at home, Liu Chuxue asked, "Chunxiao, has the well at the new house struck water yet?"
Mentioning this made Chunxiao excited: "Uncle Liangzi led people working all day; they hit water after digging just over three meters, but Dad said to dig another meter or two deeper, fearing that if it's too shallow, the water will run out early during a drought year.
Uncle Liangzi is also an honest man; he dug straight down to over six meters before telling everyone to stop. Tomorrow they will come back to pave the bottom with stones, and then they can start building the well walls. I heard them say it will be finished in at most three days."
While talking, Chunxiao excitedly turned around and walked backward facing Liu Chuxue: "Second Sister, Ninth Uncle brought the main gate over today; it was fully installed by nightfall, so now Zhui Feng can finally sleep well at night."
Liu Chuxue had not expected the well-digging to proceed so smoothly; after all, she had often heard before that if the wrong spot is chosen, one might dig over ten meters without finding water. It seems professional matters must be left to professionals; later, she must properly thank Fu Yan Cheng, as well as the few people who helped with the detection.
Thinking of this, she planned to find time in the coming days to visit and see if there would be any gains; then she could make some meat paste and deliver it to the reservoir side, thereby settling this matter.
When the two sisters arrived home, they heard Qu Aihua speaking: "Mom, you are being too excessive; that fine grain was brought to me by my natal family. How could you scoop away the entire bowl?"
Liu Chuxue looked at Chunxiao: "Qu Aihua has returned?"
Chunxiao nodded: "Yes, today the Old Master sent Liu Jianqiang to fetch her."
Liu Chuxue had not expected that since writing the letter severing family ties, this little girl would refer to the Liu family by their given names; however, she did not correct her, as they were indeed not blood relatives anyway.
Just as they were preparing to enter the courtyard, Liu Chuxue suddenly caught a glimpse of a figure flashing quickly in the distance out of the corner of her eye; she immediately turned her head, certain that what she had just seen was not an illusion.
Pretending nothing was amiss as she entered the courtyard, she quickly extended her spiritual sense toward that area, only to discover two people hiding behind the Li family's outhouse in the neighboring yard; moreover, they were not from their village. What was going on?
They should not be related to those people from the road today, but what did these individuals intend to do?
It seemed the village would soon be unsettled; she would have to remind her family members shortly not to act alone: "Chunxiao, has Dad returned yet?"
Chunxiao shook her head: "Not yet; today Uncle Xinming had time and helped our family string the electrical wires. When I came back, only the southern house remained unconnected; it should be finished by now."
The two continued talking as they entered the home.
Seeing the sisters enter, Mother Liu asked, "Liu Chuxue, why have you only just arrived home so late?"
Liu Chuxue repeated the explanation she had previously given Chunxiao; those soldier comrades had warned them today, and she had no intention of telling her family about what happened on the road, lest she frighten them.
