Chapter 274: She Was a Bit Panicked
Liu Chuxue's father, standing outside the door, heard the conversation between the mother and her two daughters clearly.
He wiped his face, striving to calm his thoughts: The second daughter is right; one must not swing from one extreme to another. He is very content with life as it is now; even those in the village with many sons do not live as comfortably as he does. One must be content.
As for a son, Chuxue is right. If fate grants one, it will come; if not, do they not still have three daughters?
Not wishing to disturb those inside, he turned and went out the main gate, preparing to check the private plot.
Now his leg has basically recovered, but Chuxue said that to avoid any sequelae in the future, he must listen to her, stating that he could at earliest return to work next month.
However, he has not been idle; these past few days the Party Secretary has asked him to help at the livestock keeper's place. Though he cannot do heavy labor, he can still feed the animals and add fodder, and at the very least, he earns four work points a day.
After soothing Liu's mother, Chuxue went straight to the kitchen.
Chunxiao was dumbfounded; her second sister didn't even look at her.
Moreover, what did her second sister mean just now? Does it mean that father and mother might still have another child, or that even if they cannot, they will not force her to take a husband? Is that the meaning?
Right, just now her second sister seemed to say she had been used without even realizing it. What does that mean?
Somehow, seeing that neither her second sister nor her mother was paying attention to her, she grew a bit panicked.
Chuxue had just finished chopping vegetables when she heard someone outside calling her name: "Chuxue, are you there?"
Chuxue stuck her head out from the kitchen: "Yuanyuan, come in quickly. Why have you come at this time?"
Liu Zhiyuan's face was full of smiles: "Today my mother and I went up the mountain and happened upon an apricot tree. Hearing you say you will go to Sister Xia Qiu's place in a few days, my mother said pregnant people crave sour flavors, so she sent some over."
"You have delivered right to my sister's heart. A few days ago I went over and brought some apricots; she loved them dearly.
Since the exam ends tomorrow, I was planning to go over then. Now this is perfect; it saves me from going up the mountain. Thank you, Yuanyuan."
"Oh, between us, why are you being so polite?"
"Right, right, right, I won't be polite with you."
"Alright, the goods are delivered, and I must return; my mother is waiting for me to come back for dinner."
"Wait a moment."
Chuxue went back to her own room and wrapped a small packet of spicy dried fish in oil paper: "This is dried fish I made myself; don't mind that there is so little."
"You made it?"
"Yes, but once dried, there isn't much left. The rest must be sent to my sister; just taste it."
"Hehe, you are still the best, thinking of me. Then I'll take it."
Just as Liu Zhiyuan left, Liu's father returned carrying a bunch of coriander: "Who was here just now?"
"It was Yuanyuan. She went into the mountains this afternoon to pick some apricots. Knowing I would go to my sister's after finishing the exam, she sent some over and asked me to take them."
"By the way, when are you planning to go?"
"After the exam tomorrow, barring any special circumstances, I'll go the day after."
"Alright. Just as well, our tomatoes are fully ripe. Pick some cucumbers too, and the melons planted by the field edge are ready to eat. Then pick some of each and send them over.
The Qiu family has many people; I'm afraid the produce from the private plot cannot be reserved solely for her. I heard that eating more vegetables and fruits is good during pregnancy, so take plenty over."
"Who told you that?"
"I heard it while chatting with other family members at the hospital before."
Chuxue couldn't help but laugh: "It seems your hospital stay wasn't in vain; at least you heard quite a few useful pieces of information."
