Chapter 314: This Is a Barefaced Threat
After leaving the northern suburb farm, Liu Chuxue casually collected some fish, shrimp, and crabs from the reservoir before crossing the mountain to head back.
Thinking it was still not too late, she planned to head deeper into the mountain once she got up there and see if she could find anything.
Just as she was nearing the halfway point up the mountain, she suddenly thought of the cave where she had previously met Fu Yan Cheng, wondering why that guy hadn't shown up lately — she didn't know if he'd gone on a mission.
Lost in thought, she had just climbed to the top of the mountain when she heard a rustling sound in the distance. She assumed it was villagers from nearby coming up the mountain to forage for wild game, but instead she heard: "If this works out, how much money do you think we'll get? I'm telling you, if it's too little, I won't do it."
"Rest easy. Brother Sun has never fought a battle without being sure of victory. Once it's done, our brothers will naturally not be short on benefits."
"Are we almost there yet?"
"Almost, almost. There's a cave not far ahead. Let's hide the kid there first. Even if they're all-powerful, they probably won't expect us not to have taken the person out of the capital."
"By the way, who exactly did this kid's family offend?"
"Just handle the job Brother Sun gave us. Don't ask what you shouldn't."
"It's just the two of us here — isn't it just curiosity?"
"Alright, we're here. Hurry up."
Out of curiosity, Liu Chuxue followed them and saw them carrying a burlap sack.
From their words she gathered that the sack contained a child, but when she spread her spiritual sense and clearly saw the child inside, she froze for a moment: wasn't this the very child she had saved at the hospital before?
Just rescued from the blade of someone else's knife, and now stuffed into a sack and kidnapped — this child really was plagued by misfortune.
Combining what she'd overheard, she was wondering whether it was better to go straight down the mountain and report to the police, or to deal with these two first and then take the child down the mountain to report to the police.
Since she'd run into it, she certainly couldn't ignore it — especially since the child was something of an old acquaintance.
Meanwhile, back in the capital, the Gu family home was in total chaos: "Dad, the kid must have had an accident. It's been over three hours. I can't wait any longer — let's call the police."
"Calm down a bit. Don't let the old man hear you. Are you trying to take his life?"
The woman, hearing this, flashed a panicked look across her face: "No, Dad, I'm just anxious."
"Now you know you're anxious. How many times have I told you before — don't let the child out of your sight. But what did you do?"
At that moment, someone hurried in: "Big Brother, what's actually going on?"
The woman, her eyes red from crying, saw the newcomer and rushed over at once: "Auntie, Qianshan is missing. We've searched all around here and haven't found him."
The newcomer was a little impatient: "State the facts when there's a problem. What's the use of crying? Where exactly did the child go missing?"
The woman struggled to rein in her sobbing: "At the entrance of the department store. I only exchanged a few words with an acquaintance, and in that moment the child was gone."
Hearing this, the newcomer looked up at the man standing in the middle of the room: "Big Brother, I don't think this is simple. Let's call the police first."
Gu Lingzhi's face was frosted over with ice as he handed over the letter in his hand: "Xiaoyao, take a look at this."
Gu Yao took the letter, and after seeing its contents: "This is a barefaced threat."
The woman, still choking with sobs, saw the paper in her aunt's hand, strode forward and snatched it away. After reading the contents clearly, she completely broke down: "Dad, Qianshan is your only grandson. You have to save him. Pengcheng is already gone — I can't lose my son too."
