Chapter 35: What Is the Patient's Condition
Seeing so many people watching, the couple promptly stopped talking and thought it better to ask privately later.
Liu Chuxue had already decided how to reply; after all, she could not act like the original owner, so she could only gradually change her image: "Let's handle the important matter first."
The man asked where they were going: "Sit tight, we're leaving now."
By the time they arrived at the hospital, it was already noon, but Liu's father's condition could not be delayed any further.
That man was also a helpful person and even helped carry the patient into the hospital.
Liu Chuxue disregarded the rules and shouted loudly: "Doctor, doctor, save him!"
Soon, on-duty medical staff rushed out; the nurse in the lead asked, "What is the patient's condition?"
Liu Chuxue quickly explained the situation.
The nurse's eyes were full of disapproval: "Why was it so long before you brought him here?"
Liu Chuxue naturally knew the arrival was somewhat late, but what could she do? Without money, one could not move a single step; as a girl who had just transmigrated and was still underage, what say could she possibly have in the current situation? She could only use some small tricks to create conditions.
Liu's mother quickly explained: "After the accident, we took him to our commune's health clinic, but conditions were limited; the doctor suggested we come to a larger hospital. We spent some time gathering money, which caused the delay."
What she did not say was that the only way from the commune to the city was to catch a passing bus from the county town heading into the city; once the schedule passed, there were no more buses, and this was already the fastest they could manage.
The mother and daughter had not failed to consider borrowing village livestock to pull them to the city, but calculating the time, it would be about the same as catching this bus, and besides, they had no money on hand; even if they arrived, it would be Bai Da.
Hearing their words, the medical staff understood their difficulties to some extent.
Soon Liu's father was pushed into the examination room; the mother and daughter had wanted to follow, but the nurse stopped them: "Relatives should wait outside; we will come out to notify you if there is news."
Not long after, a nurse came out, asked for some information, then handed over a filled-out form: "Go pay the fee first."
Seeing the amount on the form, Liu Chuxue's mood grew heavy; after all, once this was paid, there was still no source for the future treatment costs.
But there was no time to worry about that; for now, she could only take one step at a time; a living person certainly would not be suffocated by their own urine.
Liu's mother nervously handed the bundle she had been protecting in her arms to her daughter and, forcing calm, whispered: "I hid the money in the upper pocket of your father's change of clothes."
Liu Chuxue took the bundle, gave Liu's mother a reassuring look, then ran with the form toward the payment counter.
After completing the hospitalization procedures, seeing the few dozen yuan remaining and thinking of the future treatment costs, she could not help but frown and sigh softly.
She jogged back to the examination room; the doctor had already finished the examination and was discussing with Liu's mother: "Fortunately, although so much time was lost, the broken leg has not become infected, and it appears the surrounding nerve tissue was not damaged; this is the best of bad luck."
"As for the other leg, although severely swollen, the bone was not injured; however, the contusion is quite serious. There are still several tests to be done; once the results are out, we will arrange surgery as soon as possible."
Hearing the doctor's words, Liu's mother, with red eyes, clasped her hands together and kept thanking him.
Seeing Liu's mother like this, Liu Chuxue felt very bad in her heart.
She reached out to support her: "Mom, I know you are worried about Dad, but if you collapse, what will become of Dad?"
Liu's mother knew her daughter was right, but with such a huge matter, as a woman she truly felt at a loss; fortunately, her second daughter had ideas: "I understand, Mom."
