Chapter 416: Miscalculation

Lin Muni thought she was very clever, believing that her words and attitude would surely make the factory leaders look at her with new respect; after speaking, she waited for the leaders to praise her.

Unfortunately, she had miscalculated.

How could the leaders of a factory with ten thousand workers be mindless? Secretary Cheng especially disliked Lin Muni: truly unaware of the heights of heaven and the depths of earth, she still wanted to treat them as mere tools to be used.

Upon hearing her words, Factory Director Yang's face grew even darker; having just arrogantly driven the person away, she now wanted them to go and invite the person back: "Since you were the one who drove the person away, you go and invite them back. Lin Muni did not expect the ball to be kicked back to her; upon clearly hearing what the factory director said, she broke out in a cold sweat and instinctively shifted closer to her uncle.

Seeing her still standing there, Factory Director Yang said: "Hurry and find the person. What are you still standing there for?"

How could Lin Muni dare to stay any longer? She bowed and scraped, turned around, and left the conference room.

But as soon as she left the conference room, she leaned weakly against the corridor wall, her entire body limp: "How could this happen? What should I do?"

After she left, Factory Director Yang looked at Deputy Director Shen and spoke: "You must be clear about the seriousness of this matter, and the factory cannot simply pretend nothing happened. Secretary Cheng and I will report to the Ministry shortly."

Upon hearing these words, Deputy Director Shen closed his eyes, sighed deeply in his heart, and nodded to Factory Director Yang: "Indeed, I have been derelict in my duty and feel very ashamed. I accept any decision made by the Ministry and the factory."

He knew he could not escape; it was better to retreat in order to advance. Perhaps then, the Secretary and the Factory Director, in order to protect themselves, might even mediate on his behalf.

Factory Director Yang looked at Director Chen: "You are familiar with Comrade Xiao Liu; I am afraid you will have to go personally to invite the person."

Factory Director Yang's judgment of people was always accurate; there was no need to think that Lin Muni could not persuade that young lady, but now they could not afford to wait. For every day they delayed, the workers would have to endure another day of hardship, and moreover, the superiors were waiting for results.

Director Chen naturally understood the factory director's meaning: "Factory Director, after all, Comrade Xiao Liu is from the Finance Office."

They were both smart people; he did not spell it out too clearly. Previously, he had been the one to suggest inviting the person over, but who would have thought that the person would suffer undeserved trouble? Without showing some sincerity, he would not feel comfortable going over there.

Factory Director Yang and Secretary Cheng exchanged a glance, and after whispering a few words to each other,

Factory Director Yang looked at Director Chen again: "Here is the plan: tell Comrade Xiao Liu that if she can translate all these materials within two days, the factory will reward her with three hundred yuan and a bicycle ticket. If, before the experts arrive, she can assist the factory's senior workers in successfully starting and running the hydraulic transmission internal combustion engine, the factory will reward her with six hundred yuan, a bicycle ticket, and a radio ticket."

Remembering something, he added: "The money is a reward from the factory; the tickets are personal rewards from Secretary Cheng and me."

Such rewards were indeed generous. Seeing his purpose achieved, Director Chen stood up and said: "I will go find her immediately."

When Lin Muni arrived at the First Section of the Finance Office, everyone was busy with their own tasks. Having heard Factory Director Yang's earlier words, she dared not be arrogant again: "Excuse me, may I ask where Liu Chuxue is?"

The Finance Office and the Factory Office were both located in the same building. This person had visited Deputy Director Shen many times before; although everyone was not familiar with her, they knew who she was.

Cui Haiqing did not know what had happened between them; looking up, she replied simply: "She went to the bank and should be back before noon."

But upon finishing her sentence and seeing Lin Muni's expression change instantly, she couldn't help but mutter to herself: "What is going on?"
