Chapter 469: Stalking
The next morning, Liu Chuxue got up early to tidy herself.
Just as she was about to leave, Uncle Liangzi and his family arrived with gifts: "Chuxue, are you going out?"
Although Liu Cunyi hadn't meant it, if Chuxue hadn't known their plans beforehand, the consequences would have been unthinkable, so she wasn't as warm as usual: "My parents are at the private plot behind the house. You sit first; I'll go call them."
Aunt Liangzi had wanted to say she was looking for her, but seeing Chuxue already at the gate, she held back her words.
She gave her youngest son a hard punch on the shoulder: "Look at the mess you've made."
Liu's father and mother were watering in the private plot. Seeing Chuxue approach, they asked: "Aren't you going out to handle business? Why have you come here?"
"Uncle Liangzi and his family have arrived."
They naturally knew why Uncle Liangzi's family had come, but seeing their daughter's expression, they realized she had no intention of forgiving Cunyi.
Liu's father sighed: "Snow, where forgiveness is possible, forgive. For the sake of your Uncle Liangzi and his wife, don't grow distant from them."
Chuxue nodded: "Wrongs have a source, debts have an owner. I won't take my anger out on others. Regarding yesterday's incident, although Cunyi didn't mean it, given how things unfolded yesterday, if I had truly been harmed, whose fault would it be?"
Liu's father knew this wasn't an empty threat, but he and Liangzi had been friends for so many years; he didn't want them to drift apart because of this matter.
Liu's mother washed her hands in the bucket: "Enough, don't make things hard for the child. Wash up and go back to see them."
Chuxue didn't return to the courtyard with them: "I'll be out for a while. I'll come back once I've finished my business. If Fu Yan Cheng arrives, tell him to wait for me."
Having spoken, she strode briskly toward the village.
With so much compensation to pay, she was certain Ding Surong couldn't come up with it all at once and would surely seek outside help.
As expected, not long after she stationed herself near the old Liu family house, Ding Surong came out.
Following her all the way to the commune, just as she had guessed, after arriving at the commune, Ding Surong first had breakfast at the state-run restaurant before heading toward the post and telegraph office.
After Ding Surong ordered breakfast, Chuxue found a hidden spot and entered the space, not only filling her stomach but also changing her outfit.
By the time she exited the space and reached the main gate of the post and telegraph office, the gate had just been opened from inside.
Ding Surong hurried inside; Chuxue followed leisurely, pretending to write a letter while keeping a close watch on every move Ding Surong made.
Watching her ask the staff to dial a number, and as soon as someone answered on the other end, she quickly took the receiver: "Hello, I'm looking for Qi Shufang."
The other end must have gone to fetch someone; after waiting quite a while, there was finally movement: "Has the matter been handled?"
"Shufang, something has come up, and it's quite serious. They're now demanding compensation, but I don't have that much on hand. What do you think?"
"What do you mean? You failed to get the job done, and now you want me to give you money? What were you thinking?"
"Then consider it a loan from you. Once I get money from my father, I'll repay you immediately."
"Rather than making things so complicated, why not just go straight to the source? Just ask your father directly."
"Shufang, I got into this mess trying to help you. You can't just ignore me completely, can you?"
"But you didn't get the job done. Is it appropriate for you to say this now?"
"I said it's just a loan. Will you really not help me?"
Hearing the threat in those words, Qi Shufang felt somewhat displeased, but she feared that if she ignored her completely, Ding Surong might expose everything, making the situation even harder to resolve: "Fine, how much do you want to borrow?"
