Chapter 502: You Guessed It All

Seeing Liu Chuxue thought about entering the Railway Courtyard, so she sat up.

To prevent Ji Kunlan from suspecting anything later: "You're not afraid of the dark and want me to be your bodyguard, are you?"

Ji Kunlan laughed: "You guessed that?"

Ji Kunlan actually did have that thought: "Then do you want to go with me?"

Seeing Liu Chuxue naturally would not refuse: "Sure, I was just going to go out for a stroll anyway."

She wanted to take a risk once, to see if there were any clues about her father's background at Jiang Huiwen's place.

The two left, took the direct bus to the Railway Courtyard, and as they watched the sky darken outside the window, Seeing Liu Chuxue thought in her heart about how she could act alone for a while once they entered the courtyard.

What she did not expect was that after entering the Railway Courtyard, the direction Ji Kunlan walked was exactly toward the Wang family's.

By sheer coincidence, Xiao Mu's maiden home happened to be not far from the Wang family's.

Ji Kunlan did not know what had happened at the Wang family's and did not notice Seeing Liu Chuxue's change of expression.

When the two arrived at the Xiao family's, the main gate was open.

Ji Kunlan stood at the main gate: "Second Sister-in-law, are you home?"

Someone walked out of the main room: "Who is it?"

Hearing the question, Ji Kunlan said: "Auntie, it's me, Kunlan."

The woman who walked out looked to be in her early forties, yet her head was full of white hair: "Oh, Kunlan, here to see Yaoyang?"

"Yes, a few days ago my mother found someone to trade for a few milk powder coupons and had them sent over. I thought I hadn't seen Yaoyang in a long time, so I came to pay a visit."

"Then you'll probably have to wait a bit; your Second Sister-in-law took him out for a walk to aid digestion."

"It's fine, I'll just wait a while."

"Who is this?"

"This is Liu Chuxue; she lives in the same dormitory as me."

Liu Chuxue smiled and nodded at the woman: "Hello, Auntie."

"Oh my, this Miss is truly beautiful. Come, come inside."

Ji Kunlan waved her hand: "Auntie, let's just sit in the courtyard; it's cooler outside."

Clearly Xiao Mu was very familiar with Ji Kunlan; hearing Ji Kunlan say this, she did not insist further: "That works too. You sit; I'll go cut some watermelon for you to eat."

Seeing the person enter the kitchen, Ji Kunlan whispered: "This is my Second Sister-in-law's mother."

As the two were talking, Xiao Mu came over carrying the sliced watermelon: "Try it quickly; I've been soaking this melon in the bucket for quite a while."

Ji Kunlan, afraid Seeing Liu Chuxue might feel shy, handed her a piece: "It hasn't rained for more than half a month straight; even the evenings aren't very cool."

Xiao Mu smiled: "In a few days it will be the Mid-Autumn Festival, and after that comes the Autumn Equinox; it won't be hot for many more days."

At that moment, Ji Kunlan thought of something: "I went to the Logistics Department today to collect supplies and heard them say the Mid-Autumn welfare benefits will arrive at the factory tomorrow; who knows, we might be able to collect them right after work tomorrow."

Xiao Mu looked at her with a smile: "Every year it's the same old things; there's no novelty."

Ji Kunlan finished the watermelon in her hand: "I heard this year there are more varieties of fruit than in previous years."

Seeing Liu Chuxue was somewhat curious: "What do they usually distribute for the Mid-Autumn Festival in past years?"

Ji Kunlan was actually collecting welfare benefits for the first time, but since her own Second Sister-in-law had worked at the Rolling Mill for several years, she naturally knew the details: "It's distributed according to seniority and rank; the welfare benefits for regular workers and temporary workers are different too. The varieties are about the same; the difference is in the quantity."

"Regular workers are also divided into three tiers: factory leaders and those at Level Six and above are one tier; those above Level Three are another tier; the rest make up the third tier."

Seeing Liu Chuxue looked eager to learn: "Then which tier do we count as?"

Ji Kunlan laughed: "For us new office clerks who just joined the factory, welfare benefits are distributed at the middle tier."

As the few were talking, they heard the sound of children speaking at the main gate: "Grandma, Mom and I are back."
