Chapter 568: A Bit Embarrassed by the Praise
Wang Changzheng never expected that leading a business trip would lead to such an incident, nor did he imagine the Liu Association possessed such capability: "Accountant Liu is indeed excellent. Her factory entrance exam scores were outstanding; at the time, several departments were eager to recruit her."
Just as they were speaking, someone entered: "Deputy Regiment Commander Xiao, everything has been fully inventoried and handed over to the Public Security Bureau."
Deputy Regiment Commander Xiao nodded to the newcomer: "Arrange for them to rejoin the unit."
After exchanging pleasantries with Deputy Director Qi, Deputy Regiment Commander Xiao smiled at Chuxue: "Comrade Liu, our military unit and the Public Security Bureau will jointly apply for a commendation for you. Once we have news, we will notify your Rolling Steel Factory directly."
Since they had offered such a good thing, she naturally would not refuse.
Once these people left, the team leader Wang Changzheng smiled so broadly his eyes disappeared: "Chuxue, you are truly remarkable."
Chuxue felt a bit embarrassed by the praise.
Sister Jiang stepped forward then: "Enough, enough. Chuxue still has injuries; let her have some quiet time."
Everyone then realized they were simply too excited.
Although they had intended for Chuxue to rest first, Wang Changzheng said then: "It's almost mealtime; let's eat something before resting."
Chuxue thought this made sense: "Alright."
Although business trips included meal allowances, everyone had brought some food when leaving home, after all, saving it meant it was theirs to keep.
Chuxue opened the bag Fu Yan Cheng had given her first, wanting to see what he had prepared. Inside, besides the hat, scarf, and gloves prepared for her, there were sugar buns, flower rolls, vegetarian buns, and boiled eggs. At the very bottom were beef jerky, a bottle of garlic sauce, and a bag of milk powder. This fellow had truly put thought into it.
She knew they were vegetarian buns because the person had written "vegetarian buns" on the kraft paper bag, likely fearing the meat buns would be inconvenient to eat once cold.
Wang Changzheng returned with people carrying boiled water, and everyone began eating the dry rations they had brought.
Seeing Chuxue take out a bun, Sister Jiang leaned close to her ear and asked: "Is the person who gave this your partner?"
Chuxue did not hide it: "He is my fiancé."
Sister Jiang laughed: "One can tell at a glance that you two are in a free-love relationship."
Chuxue laughed: "Can you tell that from just looking?"
Sister Jiang took out the steamed bun she had brought: "Eyes are the hardest to deceive."
Watching her eat the steamed bun with plain boiled water, Chuxue said: "Sister Jiang, I have garlic sauce; would you like some?"
How could Sister Jiang bring herself to say "yes" with so many people watching? She quickly waved her hand: "No need, no need. I have salted duck eggs in my bag; I'm just too lazy to peel them."
After speaking, she added: "We are sitting here for several days; you should keep it for yourself."
After speaking, she patted Chuxue's hand.
Chuxue naturally understood Sister Jiang's meaning. Looking up, she saw everyone was already eating and showed no intention of sharing their own things, so she did not speak further.
Eating one vegetarian bun and one sugar bun, and drinking most of a cup of water, this was the first meal on the train.
Seeing Chuxue finish, Sister Jiang urged her to rest.
Chuxue was indeed somewhat tired. She stood up and went to the restroom. Because the hygiene and smell inside were unbearable, she closed the door and immediately entered her space.
She did not stay inside long. After attending to her physiological needs, she came out.
After all, they were outside; it was better to be cautious.
Returning to the compartment, she greeted everyone and climbed onto the middle berth.
Originally, they had intended to give the two lower berths to Chuxue and Sister Jiang, but since everyone needed to come down to move about, it would be somewhat inconvenient. Chuxue therefore took the middle berth.
Afraid of disturbing Chuxue, everyone was self-disciplined. After tidying up, they returned to their own berths. Some napped, others read; in any case, everyone was tacitly understanding and made no noise.
