Chapter 597: If You Can't Speak Properly, Just Shut Up
Liu Chuxue quickly understood what the other meant: "I was just helping to ask; you don't need to take it to heart."
Zhang Taohua waved her hand and said, "How can that be? If you hadn't helped clarify the situation, we would have been in a state of constant panic all day. We must show our gratitude."
The two chatted all the way until they arrived.
Liu Chuxue got off the vehicle on the main road outside the commune. Zhang Taohua could have ridden a bit further, but to accompany her for a while, she got off early.
No matter how Liu Chuxue persuaded her, she wouldn't listen, so Liu Chuxue could only let her be.
Still, it was quite heartwarming.
After all, it was far better than someone who accepted help but showed no appreciation.
By now, every village had begun the autumn harvest. Although it had grown dark, people were still working in the fields. After declining their offer to see them off, the two parted ways.
Walking all the way into the village toward home, they met many people. Seeing the large bag she carried, everyone was incredibly envious.
Before long, everyone in the village knew that the second daughter of the Shanliang family had returned with quite a few things.
When Liu Chuxue arrived home, her father and mother had not yet returned; Chunxiao was cooking in the kitchen.
Hearing the noise, she poked her head out, saw it was Liu Chuxue, and said, "Second Sister, you're finally back. Hurry and help me make the noodles."
Hearing her take such a matter-of-fact tone, Liu Chuxue didn't argue with her, since her father and mother had worked all day and were surely already hungry.
She put the things back in her room, then washed her hands in the yard. Zhuifeng darted into the yard, wagged his tail by her side, and acted spoiled for quite a while.
Liu Chuxue glanced toward the kitchen, saw that Chunxiao wasn't paying attention, and directly took a piece of meat bone she had previously stored in her space: "A reward for you."
Zhuifeng seemed to understand Liu Chuxue's previous action, took the bone in his mouth, and followed it to his own den, as if afraid of being discovered.
That little expression made Liu Chuxue burst into laughter.
After washing her hands, she entered the kitchen and saw Chunxiao staring at the already stir-fried minced meat topping.
Seeing her come in, Chunxiao said, "Second Sister, you have no idea how exhausted I've been these past few days. I had to go to the fields to help and still come back to cook. You're so lucky; you have a job in the city where you can slack off."
Hearing her say that, Liu Chuxue's temper flared: "If you can't speak properly, just shut up."
Seeing her own second sister angry over a single remark, Chunxiao said, "I was just speaking off the cuff. Why are you getting angry?"
Liu Chuxue glanced at her: "Others learn from a setback, but you? Have you been brainwashed by someone again?"
Hearing her second sister insult her, Chunxiao became unhappy too: "Second Sister, what do you mean by that?"
Liu Chuxue didn't beat around the bush: "Did I say anything wrong? If you can say such things, isn't it because you listened to someone else's provocation?"
Chunxiao wanted to refute, but opened her mouth and then closed it again.
She remembered; the reason she said that was indeed because she had heard someone mention it, which led her to think that way.
Liu Chuxue rolled her eyes at her: It seemed her guess was correct.
She was no saint, so naturally she wouldn't indulge her. If she knew her place, helping her out in the future would be no problem. But if she kept acting up like this, it was better to keep her distance.
For a moment, neither spoke, and the kitchen fell silent.
Although in her past life Liu Chuxue loved fiddling with food, she hadn't mixed dough much, but thanks to the original owner's memories, she managed to do it quite properly.
Just as she finished kneading the dough, her mother's voice sounded from outside the yard: "Chunxiao, has your second sister returned?"
Before Chunxiao could reply, Liu Chuxue spoke first: "Mom, I'm back."
Just as Liu Chuxue was about to say something, she heard the village committee secretary's grandson, Zhili, run up: "Sister Liu Chuxue, there's a phone call for you at the village office."
