Chapter 609: Why Did They Send So Much?
Both families set their meals out in the courtyard, eating the rice from their bowls while each pondered their own thoughts.
Qiu Shaofeng watched as his wife handed him her steamed bun made of mixed flour: "You're carrying a child now; you must eat more."
Xia Qiu didn't want to admit in front of everyone that she had eaten alone, yet if she didn't say anything, this fellow wouldn't feel at ease, so she leaned close to his ear: "Mom asked Liu Chuxue to bring me some food. I've already eaten a bit; just having the thin porridge is fine. You've been tired all morning, so eat quickly."
Hearing these words, Qiu Shaofeng's eyes were full of smiles: "Alright, as long as you don't go hungry."
Even though Xia Qiu spoke very quietly, everyone still heard it.
Not only An Xiaojing, but the others were envious as well.
The younger sister-in-law, Qiu Shaomei, glanced up at her eldest sister-in-law: Back when the second brother and second sister-in-law finished their blind date, the family had said no end of cold remarks, mocking the eldest brother for finding a wife's family that offered no help at all, yet how little time had passed since then? They had turned their fortunes around, and now they sent things to the eldest sister-in-law every few days. Though they didn't say it aloud, they were probably terribly envious in their hearts.
Qiu Fu and Qiu Mu exchanged a glance, silently agreeing in their hearts: In the future, the two daughters-in-law must be treated equally, so that neither family would come back later to settle scores.
An Xiaojing also glanced at her eldest sister-in-law from time to time: She had been quite favored in her own natal home, but after marrying out, her family had truly given her no support. Every time the eldest sister-in-law's family sent things, it was false to say she wasn't envious.
She touched her small belly, and a sense of melancholy arose in her heart.
Qiu Shaocheng turned to look at his wife, picked up a chopstickful of steamed eggplant with garlic, and gave it to her: "Try this; it's very flavorful."
An Xiaojing smiled at him, masking her thoughts: "Good."
After the meal, Qiu Shaofeng took his wife back to their room. Since the meal was cooked by his own wife, this bowl naturally had to be washed by the second sister-in-law, after all, both were pregnant women; one could not favor one over the other.
He loved his own wife, so he pulled her back to the room with a look of complete self-evidence.
Seeing the things laid out on the table: "Why did they send so much?"
Xia Qiu pointed to the items on the side: "These were prepared by Mom, and those were prepared by Liu Chuxue. She not only prepared things needed for the child's birth but also prepared nourishing food for me; it was truly hard on her."
Qiu Shaofeng's mind spun with countless thoughts: "From now on, I will surely work hard to treat my father-in-law and mother-in-law well, and to treat my two younger sisters-in-law well."
Xia Qiu looked up, smiling at him: "That goes without saying. If you don't treat my parents and my sisters well, hmph, then I won't treat you well either."
Qiu Shaofeng couldn't help but pull her into an embrace: "Rest assured. Before we married, didn't I say that a son-in-law is half a son? In the future, I will definitely treat my father-in-law and mother-in-law well. Not to mention that we have received so much kindness now; my words come from the heart."
Xia Qiu knew when to stop, pointing to the Peace Dove baby bottle: "You say it's so expensive; she really was willing to spend. I said that children in the countryside don't have the means to drink formula milk powder. Even if there's no breast milk, we can only cook porridge to feed the child. Guess what she said?"
Qiu Shaofeng looked at his wife with gentle eyes: "What did she say?"
Xia Qiu touched the baby bottle: "That girl said that if there is enough breast milk, this bottle can be used to feed water, which is better than using a spoon. If there isn't enough milk, she will definitely find a way to get a milk powder ration ticket for the child; she certainly won't let her nephew go hungry."
Hearing these words, Qiu Shaofeng couldn't help but swallow hard, truly feeling that this younger sister-in-law of his was someone worth dealing with. In his heart, he silently vowed that once he had the ability in the future, he would always remember the kindness of his younger sister-in-law.
