Chapter 71: Regardless, They Must Accept This Favor

~4 min read 714 words

Arriving at the floor where the ward was, she didn't return to the ward first, but went to the nurse’s station.

It happened that the head nurse was returning from outside: "Head Nurse, where should I put the things you asked me to bring?"

This remark made the head nurse pause, thinking: What did I ask you to bring?

Looking down and seeing the bucket on the ground, she realized: "No way, did you really catch fish?"

Chuxue nodded with a smile: "Yup."

The head nurse walked over and saw the two large fish in the bucket: "Whoa, you have quite the skill."

After saying that, she looked up at Liu Chuxue: "However, I can't take these fish for free. Yesterday was just a joke; if you really want to give them to me, I’ll give you tickets in exchange."

How could Liu Chuxue agree: "That won't do. If I really took the tickets, what would I become? Aren't you making me go back on my word?"

The two went back and forth for a while. The head nurse didn't expect Chuxue to be so stubborn: "Alright, I’ll accept these fish. I thank you on behalf of everyone."

After saying that, she said to a nurse: "These fish are quite large. Send them to Director Zhang in the cafeteria and have him help us process them. We’ll have an extra meal at the nurse’s station today."

Hearing this, the nurses were all delighted and thanked the head nurse and Liu Chuxue together.

The head nurse’s husband was a martyr, and she hadn't remarried after he passed away, so she treated the hospital as her home most of the time and was very good to the nurses under her.

Hearing the head nurse’s words, Chuxue immediately had an idea.

She leaned forward and said a bit embarrassedly: "Head Nurse, could you help process the remaining one as well? Just give me a lunch box of it later. It would be great to share some with Dr. Jiang and the others to taste."

Hearing this, the head nurse, although a bit disapproving, thought about it and realized it was true—it wouldn't be good if only their nurse’s station had an extra meal, as that might be bad for the girl: "Alright, when the fish is ready, I’ll have someone call you."

Great, now she didn't even need to find someone to process it.

Carrying her fishing gear, she happily returned to the ward: "Mom, I’m back."

Seeing her daughter empty-handed, she was afraid her daughter would feel bad, so she quickly comforted her: "Those fish are very cunning; it’s impossible to have a harvest every day. Don't be sad..."

Before she could finish, Chuxue leaned in front of her: "Mom, how is Dad today? Is he any better?"

Before Liu’s mother could answer, Liu’s father spoke first: "Xue, I feel much better. Why don't we ask the doctor if I can go home to recover? That way we can save some money."

He knew what his daughter had gone out for today, but seeing her return empty-handed and his wife clumsily finding reasons to comfort her, he felt bad.

Chuxue squeezed between the two: "What are you thinking? I’ve already prepared the medical expenses for the next few days. The reason I didn't come back in between was that I wanted to catch more fish to exchange with people."

To ease the atmosphere, she said with a smile: "I even specifically kept one for us to nourish our bodies. I just asked the head nurse to send it to the cafeteria."

Then she lowered her voice: "The fish is quite large, just enough to share with Dr. Jiang and the nurses to taste. After all, they’ve been taking good care of us these past two days."

These past two days, whether it was Dr. Jiang, the nurses responsible for their ward, or the head nurse, they had all been very friendly. Although this was their duty, they knew it was mostly because of Vice President Sun that they were more patient than with others.

Regardless, they must accept this favor.

Checking the time: "Mom, why don't we go pay the medical expenses now? So we don't have to be urged tomorrow morning." ===== CHAPTER 74 =====
