Chapter 713: Aunt and Niece Meet
At that moment someone cut in: "I see there's still a young lady sitting in the back of the cart — wonder who she is?"
A few busybodies: "Come on, let's go over and have a look."
Whatever the villagers were saying, Liu Chuxue didn't know.
She had already followed Fu Yan Cheng and brought Zhao Dujuan through the main gate.
Liu's mother had been suffering from fairly severe morning sickness these past few days; seeing them come in, she still tried to force herself to sit up.
Liu Chuxue held her back: "Mom, don't move."
Liu's mother, noticing there was a stranger, quickly picked up the cup beside her and took a sip of small red bean leaf water, trying to suppress that awful feeling.
Once she was a little better, she asked: "This young lady is?"
But the moment her words fell, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on Dujuan: "You?"
Looking at Dujuan's face, she was so startled she even forgot her morning sickness, and asked Liu Chuxue: "Who is she?"
Liu Chuxue, afraid she would get too worked up and affect the baby in her belly, went over and helped her sit down on the stool: "Mom, first listen to me — let's do a few rounds of deep breathing, calm yourself down."
Liu's mother was no fool; hearing her daughter's words, she knew this young lady must have something to do with her, and thinking further, blurted out: "Is your father Zhao Dezhu or Zhao Desheng?"
But even the tone of her question carried a tremor, and her hand gripped the corner of the table tightly.
Zhao Dujuan stepped forward: "Auntie, I'm Zhao Dujuan, my father is Zhao Dezhu."
Hearing this, Liu's mother stood up at once: "Is your father doing alright?"
Zhao Dujuan's eyes instantly reddened: "Auntie, my father sacrificed himself years ago."
Liu Chuxue, seizing the moment when no one was looking, added some spatial pool water into the cup on the table, and quickly brought it to Liu's mother's lips: "Mom, don't get worked up — come, drink some water to steady yourself, and let me tell you slowly."
Ever since they had been separated, there had been no news of her two older brothers; in her heart she had long been mentally prepared.
But hearing the news for real, she still couldn't quite accept it.
They clearly already had descendants — how could her siblings still never have met, still be separated between yin and yang?
Passively accepting Liu Chuxue's feeding, she ended up drinking a whole cup of water dry.
Once she had recovered a little, she looked toward Zhao Dujuan: "He..."
She wanted to ask something, but was already sobbing too hard to speak.
Liu Chuxue held her tight: "Mom, didn't you already prepare for the worst before? Now that you can see your niece..."
She couldn't go on either — after all, compared to a niece, her mother probably wanted to see her own elder brother even more.
Zhao Dujuan, seeing her own aunt cry, and thinking of everything she herself had endured, was overcome with grief too, and for a moment cried uncontrollably.
The sounds inside the room startled Liu's father, who had just entered the courtyard.
He tossed down the farming tools in his hands and ran straight into the room: "Lamei, what happened?"
Fu Yan Cheng quickly held him back: "Uncle, don't worry — auntie's fine."
Saying so, he pulled him aside and recounted the whole story from beginning to end.
Liu's father looked at the girl crying so heartbroken inside the room: "You mean that girl is Chuxue's real eldest maternal uncle's daughter?"
Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "Right, I've already had someone look into it — she really is auntie's own niece, and Xue'er's own cousin."
Liu's father truly hadn't expected that, after so many years, when his wife had already given up hope, there would actually be news of her eldest brother again.
Seeing his wife crying so bitterly, he was a little worried about the baby in her belly, and could only look at Liu Chuxue: "Try to comfort your mom — she's still pregnant right now."
Zhao Dujuan also heard those words, and afraid that her aunt's body might go wrong because of her, quickly stopped crying, reached out and took Liu's mother's hand: "Auntie, please don't cry — you're not alone now, you must take care of yourself."
