Chapter 723: Revealing the True Origins
Liu Chuxue glanced at the time: "Mom, start cooking early; we'll go pull another load and be back in time for dinner."
Liu's mother looked outside: "Dujuan, come with me."
She knew Chuxue had something to say to her own husband, so she called her niece along.
Seeing them leave, Liu's father spoke up: "Chuxue, what did you tell them earlier?"
Chuxue looked at Liu's father: "Dad, there's something you must hear, but please don't get angry."
Liu's father rubbed his face: "Go ahead and say it; I can take it."
Chuxue had hinted at this situation before, both openly and indirectly; now, seeing her daughter's expression, he had already braced himself for the worst.
Then he heard Chuxue say: "You are not your grandparents' biological son."
Even though he had imagined this scenario countless times before, hearing his daughter say it still left him stunned: "What do you know?"
Chuxue held nothing back and told him everything she knew, point by point: "Don't ask me how I found out; they admitted it themselves."
"Then who are my biological parents, and where are they?"
"I haven't figured that out yet, but I have leads; it shouldn't take long before we get news."
Liu's father didn't know how he walked out the front gate; it was impossible not to feel sad, yet there was also a faint sense of relief—if he truly had no blood tie to the old house, they could never again use kinship to hold him hostage.
Chuxue left first to find Fu Yan Cheng, wanting Liu's father to digest the information on his own.
She found Fu Yan Cheng behind the house; seeing he had nearly finished unloading, she handed him the water she'd brought: "Drink some water and rest a while; I'll handle the rest."
Fu Yan Cheng took the water and kept staring at Liu Chuxue.
Liu Chuxue naturally sensed it: "Just as you guessed, my father is not my grandparents' biological son."
Hearing this, Fu Yan Cheng recounted everything they had investigated, point by point: "So this Jiang Huiwen must know something."
Liu Chuxue unloaded the last bit of firewood, turned, and looked at Fu Yan Cheng: "I want to meet Jiang Huiwen."
Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "Alright, I'll arrange it for you."
Even if Jiang Huiwen's affair had become a scandal, those sons were still filial; they did everything possible to keep her within the city limits, fearing that if she went too far, they wouldn't be able to care for her and it would become a final parting.
Liu Chuxue was somewhat curious: "Where is she?"
Fu Yan Cheng looked toward the northern suburbs farm: "The breeding farm in the northern suburbs."
Hearing this, Liu Chuxue understood at once.
Her eldest son, Wang Manwen, worked at the municipal government; the northern suburbs farm was a subordinate unit directly under their management, so even if what Jiang Huiwen had done was shameful, no one dared to touch her.
Liu Chuxue looked at Fu Yan Cheng: "Later, we'll just haul the stuff from the mountain."
Upon hearing this, Fu Yan Cheng understood her meaning: "Fine; I happen to have a high school classmate in charge of that breeding farm."
Fortunately, the dead trees discovered later were dragged by Liu Chuxue down to the foot of the mountain.
Now they wouldn't have to run back up the mountain.
Because they had urgent business to attend to, Liu Chuxue said at mealtime: "Dad, we won't go up the mountain this afternoon; after we finish eating, I'll leave right away."
Liu's mother, having just reunited with her niece, felt reluctant to part: "Dujuan, whenever you're free on weekends, come back; your aunt will cook something good for you. Once the unit sends word, your aunt and I will go over there to back you up."
Dujuan was deeply moved: "Alright; as soon as there's news, I'll have someone send word back."
