Chapter 825: So That's How It Is
Before Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo could say anything, someone cut in: "I've got meat coupons here — would you trade them for your fish?"
Liu Chuxue thought the voice sounded a bit familiar, so she looked over toward it.
One look and her heart skipped a beat — it was the very person who had once led a group to rob her: "It's you."
The man gave a small cough: "Yeah, it's me."
She looked at what he was wearing: "You joined the army?"
The man nodded heavily: "Yes."
Liu Chuxue thought of something: "It wasn't because of what I said that day, was it?"
Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo suddenly understood: "So that's how it is. Lu Weijun — don't tell me Chuxue girl really hit the nail on the head?"
Realizing something, he slapped his thigh: "You rascal — I kept saying, no matter how I tried to talk you into it before you wouldn't listen, so how on earth did you suddenly see the light?"
Lu Weijun hadn't wanted to admit it, but Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo had just exposed his whole hand.
Not wanting to pick up that thread, he steered the conversation back to the earlier topic: "Comrade, what do you think of my suggestion just now?"
Liu Chuxue didn't want to linger here any longer: "How much do you want to trade for?"
Lu Weijun pulled coupons and money from his chest pocket: "I've also got some other military coupons here — see if there's anything you need."
Liu Chuxue glanced at him, about to say something.
Then she heard Lu Weijun say: "I'm about to host a treat, so the more people, the more I can trade for."
Since he'd already said as much, what was the point of being coy: "Fine, pick out what you want — just leave me one bucket."
Lu Weijun let out a quiet breath and handed all the coupons over to Liu Chuxue: "Pick what you want."
Liu Chuxue took them and looked — inside were cloth coupons, oil coupons, meat coupons, and the most of all were industrial coupons. She had no idea how this man had so many industrial coupons on him — it was truly a pillow arriving just when sleep did.
The other day Duan Ruirui had asked her to go to the department store to buy yarn, and she had said she'd find someone to trade for some industrial coupons. After all, when she'd taken in those households' stash earlier, there really weren't many industrial coupons among them — this worked out perfectly.
Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo had a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth — had this rascal finally seen sense?
Soon, the two of them had finished trading for the fish.
Lu Weijun looked at the water bucket: "Comrade Chuxue, I see I've got nothing to carry fish in either — could you lend me the water bucket for now? Just leave me your address, and I'll bring it back to you later."
Liu Chuxue didn't think much of it; seeing his hands empty, she nodded: "Sure."
She didn't want outsiders to know her home address, so she quietly gave him her work unit's address instead.
Seeing them finish their talk, Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo finally laughed: "Chuxue girl, I wonder if you'd part with that big fish of yours?"
Hearing this, Liu Chuxue generously traded it to Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo as well.
Xiao Xiao Laoyezi Guo didn't have many meat coupons or industrial coupons, but he did have several liquor coupons.
Why would Liu Chuxue refuse? She'd been wanting to stock up on Moutai all along — the more liquor coupons the better.
After a very pleasant trade, Liu Chuxue hummed a tune as she headed back in a good mood. Because trading for the fish had cost her some time, she couldn't help but pedal faster.
As soon as she got home, she quickly unloaded the water bucket from the back of the bike: "Mom, I've put the fish in the kitchen for you. It's getting late, so I won't help you clean it — I've got to go."
Zhao Lamei saw her in a rush and quickly packed a sugar triangle, an egg, and three salted vegetable stalks in for her: "Take these with you, eat them when you get a chance — you can't work on an empty stomach."
Liu Chuxue took them: "Thanks, Mom."
She ran inside, grabbed her bag, and packed the breakfast into it.
Pushing her bike out, she asked: "Mom, where's Grandpa?"
Zhao Lamei watched her head out: "He was worried about your little aunt, so after breakfast he went to the hospital."
Then she added: "Your dad happened to be going to see your little aunt too, so they went together — don't worry."
