Chapter 890: Breakdown on the Way
Before noon, the slaughtered beef and mutton were loaded onto the trucks.
Captain Ma led his men to inspect every vehicle thoroughly, and even exchanged some fodder with the herdsmen to load onto the trucks, fearing that if the journey went wrong halfway, the unslaughtered cattle and sheep would starve to death.
After a simple lunch, bidding farewell to the guide Batuer, the convoy set off on the return journey.
Just as on the way over, Liu Chuxue and Sister Jiang rode in Xu Chengkun's truck.
However, before they had gone far, snow began to fall.
Not long after, the snow grew heavier, and the wind picked up; the seals on these cars were not very good, so the biting cold wind blew into the cabin through the gaps, making people shiver uncontrollably.
Liu Chuxue and Sister Jiang huddled together, covering themselves again with the same military greatcoat from before.
Sister Jiang smiled bitterly: "Fortunately, you brought an extra military greatcoat; otherwise, the two of us would probably have frozen into popsicles."
Liu Chuxue was fine; with her spatial cheat, she had hidden a hot water bottle inside her clothes, so she didn't suffer as much as the others: "This isn't much for me; Sister Huang brought a quilt along, and now it's finally come in handy."
The Sister Huang they were talking about was now completely wrapped in a quilt; she wanted to share half with those nearby, but there was a distinction between men and women, and if someone couldn't keep their mouth shut one day, they would never be able to clear their name even if they jumped into the Yellow River.
They just didn't expect the snow to fall even harder; not only was it a test for the drivers' skills, but also for their eyesight.
After a brief stop for everyone to attend to their physiological needs, Captain Ma held a short meeting: "While it's still daylight and this section of road is relatively flat, let's drive a bit further. Even if we don't make it to TPSQ, getting to Zhenglan Banner would be good. This journey will definitely be difficult, so everyone must pay attention to safety."
Naturally, no one was so tactless as to object; setting off again, all the drivers on the trucks had already changed shifts.
The driver on Liu Chuxue's truck was an old master.
As soon as he got in, Sister Jiang greeted him: "Master Qi, it's your turn to drive."
Master Qi nodded to them: "This journey has been too taxing on the eyes; let Xu Chengkun rest for a while."
However, their hopes were too high; the journey after the heavy snow became even harder to navigate, with an average speed of less than twenty-five kilometers per hour, and to make matters worse, one of the trucks in the middle broke down, forcing the convoy to stop.
After inspecting for a long time, they discovered it was a coolant leak, but since they were nowhere near a village, it was impossible to find suitable spare parts.
The driver said: "Captain, why don't you all go ahead first? See if you can find parts in Zhenglan Banner ahead, or we can send someone to deliver them tomorrow."
Captain Ma was in a dilemma; if the same thing happened as last night, leaving just one truck behind would be too dangerous, but the whole convoy staying with it wasn't feasible either; if they left a few trucks behind to accompany it, who should stay?
At this moment, Liu Chuxue got out of the truck; she had long used her spiritual power to overhear their conversation: "Captain Ma, I have some soap here; why not try plugging the leak temporarily? We can hold out until we reach Zhenglan Banner ahead."
Hearing this, a look of delight flashed across Captain Ma's face: "You have soap?"
Liu Chuxue nodded while handing the bar of soap in her hand over to him.
As Captain Ma took it, he couldn't help but ask: "How did you think of this method?"
Liu Chuxue put her hand to her mouth, exhaling warm breath as she spoke: "Soap has a relatively soft texture and can be easily molded. I thought that if the soap could fill the gaps, it should be able to stop the coolant from leaking."
Everyone got straight to work; fortunately, it had been a while, and the engine and cooling system had already cooled down enough that it wouldn't burn their hands.
