Chapter 948: Double Joy Arrives

Liu Chuxue nodded lightly: "Not too familiar, but I know this person. He has a widowed mother and two older sisters already married. His family situation isn't complicated, though his mother seems quite fierce. Still, these are just idle things I heard from others; we can only form a conclusion once we meet him."

Xiao Mu looked at her niece: "What do you think of that man? Does he appeal to you?"

Du Juan felt somewhat inferior: "I, I didn't know his family situation at the time. I just felt that many girls in the factory liked him, and I was afraid he was joking with me, so I didn't respond to him and left quickly."

Hearing her niece say this, Xiao Mu stood up directly: "Your father was a martyr, and you have an aunt. Don't always think you are less than others."

Xiao Fu also chimed in: "You have your aunt; this is your home. Don't treat yourself as an outsider. We'll just consider it as having gained another daughter. If you are willing, you can get married from here in the future; this will be your maiden home."

These words moved Du Juan to tears directly. No one's words carried as much weight as her uncle-in-law's: "Okay, thank you, uncle-in-law."

Xiao Mu quickly glanced at Xiao Fu: "Yes, listen to your uncle-in-law."

Near dusk, Uncle Cheng from the public telephone booth at the alley entrance came over: "Miss Chuxue, there is a call for you. They said they will call back in five minutes."

Liu Chuxue responded and ran out, still wondering who was calling.

Before she had been there long, the call came. Uncle Cheng signaled for her to answer directly, and only then did he enter the house.

Liu Chuxue picked up the phone: "Hello."

Before anything else was said, Fu Yan Cheng's voice came from the other end: "Xue'er, it's me, Yan Cheng."

"Where are you? Why are you calling?"

"I will return to the city from the army in a while. I called to tell you first; I will come find you tomorrow."

"That's not convenient. I am returning to the village tomorrow. The day after tomorrow, the village secretary's granddaughter, Liu Zhiyuan, is getting married."

"I will go back with you."

"You just returned, and you are going back to the village with me. Isn't that inappropriate?"

Fu Yan Cheng knew what she was worried about: "Rest assured, I will handle it well. Nothing you fear will happen. Besides, my mother has more than one son; she won't be jealous. She probably can't wait for me to cultivate feelings with you quickly."

Having her thoughts guessed made her feel somewhat embarrassed.

It wasn't that Liu Chuxue was overthinking; there are those mothers-in-law who feel their sons have been snatched away by their daughters-in-law. With only a few days of leave, the moment the son returns, the person is taken away. Unable to blame the son, they can only hold it against the daughter-in-law.

She wasn't afraid of her future mother-in-law making a scene; she just didn't want to create trouble when it could be avoided: "Since you say so, just handle it yourself. Be safe on the road."

She had barely finished speaking when she heard someone shout from the other end of the phone: "Battalion Commander, time is up. The vehicle is leaving."

Fu Yan Cheng replied: "Coming right away."

Then he spoke into the phone: "Xue'er, the vehicle has arrived. I'll hang up first. I will come find you tomorrow."

After hanging up, she thanked Uncle Cheng and strolled back.

She had just heard the person on the other end address Fu Yan Cheng as Battalion Commander; it seemed this fellow had been promoted.

On the other side: "Battalion Commander, having a fiancée is different. In the past during Chinese New Year, you were always on duty, giving up your leave to others."

"Isn't that nonsense? The Battalion Commander is human too; he can't have emotions and desires?"

Fu Yan Cheng glanced at the person who had spoken earlier: "You don't even have a partner, so naturally, you understand nothing. I won't argue with you."

Having finished speaking, he closed his eyes to rest.
