Chapter 997: Not Wanting Them to Get Used to It
Before dawn had fully broken, Liu Chuxue carried things on her way home.
Fortunately, she had taken the items out before reaching the intersection; from afar, she saw someone standing at the alley entrance.
After extending her spiritual sense to look, she discovered it was her own father.
Seeing the white frost on her eyebrows, she knew he had been standing there for a while; she feigned shock and said, "Dad, why are you here?"
Xiao Fu reached out and took the sack from her hands, his face full of guilt as he said, "It's all because Dad is useless; everything in the house relies on you. Rest assured, once things settle down, Dad will go out and look around more. Once I am familiar with Beijing, Dad will handle any matters."
Liu Chuxue naturally understood the meaning in his words: "I didn't go to the black market; I knew someone beforehand and went directly to his home to get them. It's not as dangerous as you think. However, I did bring the items back, and you must pay for them."
Hearing this, Xiao Fu quickly spoke up: "Of course, it should have been the family's responsibility."
When the father and daughter arrived home, Xiao Mu had just put the two-grain buns on the steamer: "You're back?"
After speaking, she stepped forward and patted Liu Chuxue's arm: "Tell me, how is your courage so great? What would we do if something bad happened to you?"
Liu Chuxue naturally saw the complexity on her face and quickly understood her thoughts, but offered no explanation: "I only did it for the sake of the family. We can't let others make fun of my older sister and leave her unable to hold her head up in her husband's home."
After all, knowing their eldest daughter had given birth, they had only been excited and taken no action.
The three of them did not return to the living room but entered the kitchen.
Xiao Mu pointed to the things on the table: "I set aside some items for your sister: two or three jin of white flour, the beef jerky you brought back earlier, and some eggs your grandfather sent before the New Year. I set aside fifteen for her."
After speaking, she stared at the sack Xiao Fu had placed on the floor: "What is in here?"
Liu Chuxue looked at Xiao Fu: "Dad, go get a basket; we can pack them directly."
Xiao Fu hurried out and returned with a basket in no time.
Liu Chuxue took things out one by one; not only Xiao Mu, but even Xiao Fu widened his eyes: "This, this, so many good things."
Seeing that Liu Chuxue had also prepared white flour, Xiao Mu said: "You have prepared white flour too; perhaps we don't need to take the family's?"
Liu Chuxue did not argue; after all, she had no intention of bearing these costs herself, lest they grow accustomed to it: "These cost a total of twenty-two yuan and six jiao."
Xiao Mu was clearly stunned for a moment.
Then, hearing her husband's words: "Go get money for Liu Chuxue; we can't let the child contribute both effort and money."
Xiao Mu opened her mouth, about to say something, but Xiao Fu's face turned cold: "This is what we, as parents, ought to prepare."
Xiao Mu coughed lightly to cover her lapse in composure: "Alright, I'll go get it right away."
She had originally thought that Liu Chuxue's wages were not entirely handed over to the family, only ten yuan a month for living expenses; she had money in hand and would not ask the family for it, but she hadn't expected her own husband to speak first.
Though somewhat displeased, she also knew her husband spoke reasonably.
She turned, went into the room, and brought out the money; neither more nor less, exactly twenty-two yuan and six jiao.
Liu Chuxue took it openly and began packing the items into the basket one by one: "Dad, is there a larger basket at home? Do you still have the sawdust from when you did carpentry work? It will come in handy when we pour the eggs into the basket later."
Xiao Fu went to the storage room and brought over a urea sack: "It's here; I was afraid we'd need it and not find it, so I kept some at home."
Liu Chuxue directly gave a thumbs-up and smiled: "Wise."
