Chapter 98: Is this woman craving my body?

~15 min read 2,944 words

Ning Lei's expression stiffened; he seemed quite afraid of Chu Zhongxin.

After calling out "Fourth Uncle," his eyes became much clearer, and he became well-behaved.

Ning Weidong leaned back, wondering what deep shadow Chu Zhongxin had left on the childhood memories of this brat, Ning Lei.

Ning Lei ate with exceptional speed, finishing in a few bites, and nimbly returned to the earthquake shelter.

Only then did the four adults begin to discuss serious matters.

Ning Weidong was concise and comprehensive, explaining the anomalies Ning Wei had discovered regarding Deputy Factory Director Liu, as well as the fact that Deputy Factory Director Liu had traveled to Japan both last year and the year before.

Initially, upon hearing that he had only sat alone in a park for a few hours, Chu Zhongxin had not paid much attention.

But upon hearing that Deputy Factory Director Liu had a history of going abroad, and had visited Japan twice recently, he immediately became vigilant.

Chu Zhongxin said solemnly, "Tell me more about this situation in detail."

In truth, Ning Weidong could not say much; he only knew that Deputy Factory Director Liu had been to Japan twice before. After all, this was no secret, as it had been organized by the higher-level Ministry, and it was a normal exchange visit.

There were no procedural issues to be found.

The only thing that was slightly unreasonable was that, generally, such opportunities to go abroad, if not strictly necessary, would be shared around—you go this time, someone else goes next time.

As a so-called industry expert, there was no rigid requirement that Deputy Factory Director Liu had to be the one to go.

Logically, since he went the year before last, he should have yielded the spot to other comrades last year.

Yet it was him again; why was that? Was it that other comrades didn't want to go? Chu Zhongxin's eyes darted as he grasped the key point, and he said in a deep voice, "Tomorrow I will go and investigate the circumstances of that trip abroad last year. If there is something fishy about it, this Deputy Factory Director Liu really must be thoroughly investigated."

By the end, Chu Zhongxin's emotions were running high, and he reached out to pat Ning Weidong on the shoulder: "Weidong, if we really uncover a problem this time, you will be the number one hero!"

Ning Weidong laughed and said, "Fourth Brother, don't say that. I just had a sudden thought. Besides, that man surnamed Liu and I have already had a falling out; I broke one of his fingers. Although I scared him off for the time being, if it drags on... you understand."

Ning Weidong did not shy away from the grudge he held against Deputy Factory Director Liu.

"One thing is one thing." Chu Zhongxin waved his hand and said, "I am going back immediately to launch an investigation."

Having said that, Chu Zhongxin acted with lightning speed; he put on his overcoat and left.

It was no wonder he was so proactive; if he could really uncover problems with Deputy Factory Director Liu this time, it would be a great achievement for Chu Zhongxin.

He might even have the hope of taking a step forward by seizing this opportunity.

After seeing Chu Zhongxin off, Ning Weidong was still thinking about Deputy Factory Director Liu's situation.

However, no matter what the truth was, there was no use thinking about it now; once Chu Zhongxin investigated, it would naturally be clear whether he was a man or a ghost.

After talking with Ning Weiguo and Wang Yuzhen for a while longer, Ning Weidong returned to the earthquake shelter.

Ning Lei was reading a picture book on the bed; seeing Ning Weidong, he hurriedly asked, "Did Fourth Uncle leave?"

Ning Weidong was caught between laughter and tears, replied "He left a long time ago," and sat down on the bed with a thud.

He went to check the time.

It was only a little past seven.

He couldn't help but think of Bai Fengyu.

Although Ning Weidong's mental age was quite high, he couldn't help that this body was only twenty-one, and after his soul-transmigration, his physical fitness had greatly improved, leaving him full of youthful vigor.

When he first transmigrated, he was tied up with all sorts of matters and had been keeping himself tense.

As he gradually adapted to the new environment and life began to get on the right track, it was inevitable that his mind would wander.

Ning Weidong leaned against the wooden bed, clicked his tongue twice, and asked Ning Lei for a few picture books to pass the time.

By eight o'clock, Wang Yuzhen came over, hauled Ning Lei away to the Upper Room to wash up, and prepared to sleep upon returning.

This brat was at the age where he loved to sleep; he crawled under the covers and forced himself to keep reading the picture book until past nine, finally nodding off with his head tilted to the side.

Ning Weidong glanced at him, got up, and helped tuck his arm, which had been hanging outside, back under the quilt.

He casually lifted the curtain and glanced into the courtyard.

Although it was only past nine, most families in the courtyard had already turned off their lights; only the Upper Room still had its light on.

He guessed Ning Weiguo was still writing materials, and Wang Yuzhen hadn't finished grading homework yet.

Ning Weidong withdrew his gaze, swept a glance at Bai Fengyu's house opposite, and picked up a picture book to continue passing the time.

Until it was past ten, the light in the Upper Room went out, and Ning Weidong also extinguished his light.

He waited a while longer before getting up on tiptoe, opening the door, and going out.

There was only a sliver of a dim moon in the sky, and there was no light at all in the courtyard, save for the light outside the Moon Gate and the light at the main gate, which cast some dim yellow radiance inward.

It was only three meters or so from the earthquake shelter to the door of Bai Fengyu's house; Ning Weidong covered the distance in three steps, reached out to press the door, and applied a little force.

Without a sound, the door opened.

Bai Fengyu had left the door unlatched for him.

Ning Weidong slipped inside and closed the door behind him.

Hearing the movement, a low shout came from the inner room: "Who!"

Ning Weidong responded, bolted the door, and walked inside.

The inner room went quiet; Ning Weidong had good eyesight, and although the room was dark, after adapting slightly, he could see the general outlines.

Walking into the inner room, he saw Bai Fengyu huddled under the quilt, wrapped up tightly, with only her head exposed.

Beside her quilt were her discarded clothes, all folded up.

On top lay a white over-garment, which did indeed match Bai Fengyu's size.

Ning Weidong blinked his eyes, and a thought suddenly popped into his mind: had this woman been craving his body for a long time?

Why was she so proactive?

Yet, in the moment he was stunned, Bai Fengyu saw he wasn't moving and couldn't help but urge him: "Silly, what are you standing there for? Come here quickly!"

Ning Weidong suddenly snapped to his senses, threw off the overcoat he had draped over his shoulders—underneath he wore only his undershirt and trousers—and dove onto the kang...

Eleven o'clock at night.

Ning Weidong snuck back.

Bai Fengyu was left with a bewildered expression on her face.

She was an experienced woman.

She knew Ning Weidong had a sturdy physique, but she hadn't expected him to be this sturdy.

After a long while.

Having recovered some strength, she still had to get up to tidy up before falling into a deep sleep.

As for Ning Weidong, he had relieved much of the pressure that had accumulated in his heart since his transmigration over these past few days.

When he opened his eyes the next day, he felt exceptionally spirited.

He rode his bicycle to the Manager.

Arriving at the South Gate, he got off and pushed his bicycle into the factory, only to see Wu Bingzhong poking his head out of the security booth; upon spotting Ning Weidong, he immediately came out to greet him. "Weidong, you're here~" Wu Bingzhong said with a smile plastered on his face.

"Morning~ Old Wu," Ning Weidong replied, noticing that Wu Bingzhong had something to ask him, but he did not stop his pace.

People like Wu Bingzhong, while not exactly bad people, were not worth getting deeply involved with.

Wu Bingzhong grinned, hurriedly followed him for a few steps, and called out to stop Ning Weidong: "Weidong~ that... I was thinking..."

Ning Weidong said with a chuckle: "Old Wu, look at you, we are old acquaintances, if you have something to say, just say it directly; there's no need to be so formal with me."

The corners of Wu Bingzhong's mouth twitched; he had been agonizing over this for the past few days.

Previously, he hadn't taken Ning Weidong seriously, thinking Ning Weidong was just a dim-witted fool who would be cleared out even if he did get into the Office Building.

But in these past few days, that Investigation Team had already disbanded, and not only had Ning Weidong not returned to the West Gate, but he had also secured his position in the Office Building, complete with an Office and a desk.

Now, Wu Bingzhong was truly starting to panic.

In his view, anyone who could be in the Office Building was no ordinary person.

Out of the more than ten thousand people in the factory, those who sat in offices in the Office Building numbered fewer than two hundred, even by the most generous estimate.

Ning Weidong had squeezed his way in; what kind of concept was that! Wu Bingzhong thought over and over again that he had to find a way to repair his relationship with Ning Weidong.

Although he had considered Ning Weidong a fool in his heart before, he hadn't done anything out of line on the surface, and had even helped Ning Weidong once.

Today, he wanted to find an opportunity to treat Ning Weidong to a meal.

Yet he didn't know that when people interact, most feelings are reciprocal. When you look down on someone, they are highly likely to look down on you as well.

There is no such thing as "I really hate this person, but I think I haven't shown it." That is only what you think; the other party has definitely sensed it, they just haven't pointed it out.

Hearing him say he wanted to treat him to a meal, Ning Weidong chuckled and said: "Old Wu, what kind of relationship do we have? There's no need for this. If you have any business, just come find me; if I can help, I certainly won't be vague about it."

Ning Weidong patted his chest and gave his word, his attitude appearing incredibly sincere.

In reality, however, he had promised nothing; if he could help, he wouldn't be vague, but if he couldn't help, then don't even bother asking.

As for what he could help with and what he couldn't, wasn't that just a matter of a single thought from Ning Weidong?

Watching Ning Weidong push his bicycle toward the office building.

Wu Bingzhong's mind was in a chaotic mess; he couldn't figure out at all what Ning Weidong had meant just now.

At this moment, a thought vaguely surfaced in his mind: why had he thought Ning Weidong was a fool in the past? It was likely that for the rest of the day, or even for several days, Wu Bingzhong would constantly ponder and struggle with this, falling into self-inflicted mental exhaustion.

Ning Weidong, however, had already turned his face and cast him to the back of his mind.

Arriving at the Office, Wen Aiying had already arrived and was cleaning up.

Ning Weidong entered the room, called out "Sister Wen," and took the initiative to pick up the thermos to go to the boiler room downstairs to fetch water.

When he returned, Chen and Feng Wen had also arrived.

Feng Wen's complexion wasn't very good today; he clearly hadn't slept well, sporting two dark circles under his eyes.

Upon seeing Ning Weidong, he actually took the initiative to greet him, which was unprecedented.

Ning Weidong replied with a "Morning, Brother Feng."

Feng Wen smiled and said: "We're about the same age, so don't keep calling me Brother Feng; just call me Da Feng."

Ning Weidong's heart stirred; previously, when he called him Brother Feng, Feng Wen had always accepted it readily.

He had even been a bit haughty, quite as if it were an honor for you to call him Brother Feng.

What happened today? Not letting him call him "Brother" could have two meanings: we are not on the same path, don't try to get close to me; or, my status isn't high enough to be your brother.

Looking at his attitude today, Feng Wen likely meant the latter.

The morning passed, and around ten o'clock, the phone on Chen's desk rang.

Chen said "Hello," then immediately shouted: "Weidong, it's for you."

Ning Weidong got up and went over; taking the receiver, he immediately heard Zhang Dajun's voice: "Weidong, do you have time at noon? Come over to my place."

Ning Weidong's heart stirred; he knew it was about Bai Fengyu's job, and he hadn't expected Zhang Dajun to be so efficient.

After hanging up the phone, Ning Weidong thought of Bai Fengyu again; this woman was truly gifted by nature.

Those two large mounds—you couldn't tell when she was wearing clothes, but they felt large and looked even larger.

It was almost noon, and before the time was up, Ning Weidong left early.

There was some distance from the factory to Zhang Dajun's Police Station; Ning Weidong arrived by bike just as it turned twelve, which was Zhang Dajun's lunch break.

"Brother Zhang~" Having been here twice before, Ning Weidong was familiar with the way to Zhang Dajun's Office and said with a smile: "Where are we going to eat today?"

Zhang Dajun tidied up his desk and said as a matter of course: "You really can't escape this meal today. Let's go, we'll talk while we eat."

The two of them left the Police Station and, without riding their bicycles, went to a small restaurant nearby.

The small restaurant was not large, with only eight tables in total, and a sign hanging at the entrance with the words "Limin Canteen."

The restaurant was run by a married couple; one was in the back kitchen stir-frying, and the other was in the front greeting customers.

The proprietress was in her thirties and could be considered somewhat attractive; seeing Zhang Dajun arrive, she immediately beamed and went up to greet him: "Dajun, it's been a while since you've been here!"

Zhang Dajun smiled and called out "Liu Jie," led Ning Weidong to a table by the window, and said familiarly: "Have your husband stir-fry two of his specialties; I brought my younger brother here today specifically to have a taste."

The proprietress nodded at Ning Weidong, her enthusiasm tempered with a sense of distance, and she nimbly brewed a pot of tea for them.

Zhang Dajun gestured toward the kitchen with his chin and said, "Ning Weidong, don't look down on this place just because it's small; the cook in the back has some real background, with a craft passed down for several generations..."

Ning Weidong responded; he had no special requirements for food, as long as it wasn't too terrible, filling his stomach was enough.

Seeing that Zhang Dajun seemed very particular about food, he only said a few words, and while waiting for the dishes to be served, he brought up the main business: "Ning Weidong, about that matter you mentioned, I went to the Street Office yesterday and asked a friend over there..."

Ning Weidong listened carefully.

Zhang Dajun's meaning was very clear; jobs were extremely hard to come by right now, but thanks to his efforts, it was still accomplished.

The conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the dishes; it really was two dishes, one was chicken soup with dried tofu, and the other was braised eggplant with potatoes.

Perhaps to suit a small restaurant, both dishes were home-style, but the taste was truly excellent.

It was on a completely different level than the Erxunpu that Ning Weidong and Ning Wei went to last time.

Ning Weidong held his rice bowl, ate a few bites of the food, and praised, "Brother Zhang, this place is great~"

Zhang Dajun laughed heartily, as if being complimented for the restaurant he recommended was even better than being complimented himself.

After eating a few bites, he continued with the main business: "Ning Weidong, I already arranged everything yesterday; you go over there tonight..."

Ning Weidong understood what was going on instantly and, without waiting for Zhang Dajun to continue, interrupted: "Brother Zhang, one matter shouldn't trouble two masters; I only recognize you as my Brother Zhang, and besides, if I go, I wouldn't even know which way their door faces."

Before coming, Ning Weidong had already prepared it and stuffed it directly over to him.

As for the other side, it was all Zhang Dajun's connection, so there was really no need for Ning Weidong to make direct contact.
