Chapter 603
"Li Heng?"
"Mm."
Mai Sui asked with unexpected delight: "Where are you? Are you calling me from Singapore?"
Li Heng replied: "Yes, in my hotel room."
Mai Sui asked with concern: "How's it there? Isn't it cold in winter?"
"Not cold. I'm wearing just one layer."
Li Heng answered, then asked: "What about you? What are you doing at home?"
Mai Sui said: "Today a lot of relatives came over; I'm helping my parents entertain them."
Li Heng asked: "Sounds like you're busy—did you find a moment to miss me?"
Mai Sui glanced back at the guests, her face flushing, and remained silent for a long while.
Not getting a reply, Li Heng sighed softly: "Mai Sui, I miss you."
"Mm."
"I want to hold you."
"Mm."
"I want to kiss you."
"...."
Mai Sui no longer said "mm"—her fair cheeks now bore two unusual blushes; flustered, she changed the subject: "Have you had breakfast?"
"Just ate a little," Li Heng said.
Mai Sui smiled gently: "From your tone, you didn't eat well?"
"Breakfast was fine, but I just had no appetite—maybe it's because it's my first time abroad; I'm not used to it yet," Li Heng said.
At that moment, the door opened and Zhou Shihe walked in lightly, carrying a breakfast bag.
After closing the door, she quickly glanced at the breakfast on the coffee table, then gently placed her own on top and walked straight to her room without looking back.
Li Heng held the receiver, watching her the whole time without speaking.
"Are you still there?" Mai Sui asked on the other end.
Li Heng replied: "Yes, I'm here."
Mai Sui asked: "Is Shihe with you?"
Li Heng answered: "Comrade Zhou Shihe just came back from outside."
Hearing her name mentioned, Zhou Shihe, who had just reached her bedroom door, stopped walking but did not turn around. She had likely guessed who the caller was.
Mai Sui might ask her to take the phone.
Sure enough, the next second, Mai Sui asked: "Can Shihe come to the phone? I want to talk to her."
"Oh, sure."
Li Heng called out into the air: "Comrade Zhou Shihe, it's Mai Sui on the phone."
Zhou Shihe turned, met his gaze without joy or sorrow for a moment, then walked to the other side of the sofa, took the receiver with poise, and began chatting casually with her friend.
Mai Sui's first question: "Li Heng said he's not adjusting well in Singapore and didn't eat his breakfast properly—how are you doing, Shihe?"
At that moment, Li Heng, shamelessly, opened the breakfast Zhou had just brought back and was eating it with relish.
Zhou Shihe glanced at him, then said gently: "With the teacher looking after me, I'm fine. But you don't need to worry about him—Professor Yu is coming soon."
Li Heng, mid-bite, instantly felt uneasy—he stared fixedly at Zhou Shihe with food in his mouth, thinking: Girl, you've got a terrible conscience, stirring up trouble right in front of me.
His bewildered, mouth-full expression was comical; Zhou Shihe pursed her cherry lips, feigned not to notice, and turned half her body away, avoiding his gaze.
