Chapter 642

~5 min read 940 words

Zhou Shihe had just reached the first-floor entrance when she collided head-on with Li Heng rushing in.

Since Li Heng had nearly run inside, his momentum was strong; the frail Zhou Shihe nearly stumbled, but she reacted quickly, extending her right hand to grip the doorframe and steady herself.

Li Heng instinctively reached out, but seeing her glance away from him, he paused, then retracted his hand and asked Guanqie ly, “Are you alright?”

Zhou Shihe remained quietly silent, then lowered her head and walked past him.

Well then, Miss Zhou still isn’t willing to acknowledge me—Li Heng, aware of his own position, didn’t dwell on it and continued toward the second floor.

But as he reached the staircase corner, Xiao Han’s figure appeared in his line of sight.

Li Heng stopped walking and quietly observed the expression on his scheming wife’s face.

Xiao Han glided up to him, leaned close to his ear, and said, “Mr. Li, there’s a lot of blood on the second floor—you should go deal with it.”

Li Heng: “...”

He didn’t respond, instead taking her hand and turning to walk out of the school.

On the way, the two encountered Ye Ning and Sun Man.

Sun Man first greeted Xiao Han, then asked Li Heng, “Mr. Big Writer, your wife’s here—won’t you be cooking lunch today? Can Ye Ning and I tag along for a meal?”

Ye Ning silently applauded inwardly, thinking: Manning, this girl’s face is thicker than city walls—I could never say something like that. Clearly, I still have a lot to learn.

Li Heng asked, “It’s this late, and you haven’t eaten yet?”

Sun Man grinned and said, “The school food isn’t as good as what you cook.”

Li Heng glanced at Xiao Han, but to his surprise, Xiao Han promptly took over: “Mr. and I are going to eat at a restaurant outside. You two can come too—more people, more fun.”

“Where outside? Then forget it—we won’t disturb your lovey-dovey time.” With that, Sun Man waved goodbye and left swiftly.

Seeing this, Ye Ning followed suit and slipped away.

Xiao Han watched the two girls fade into the distance, wondering: Did they have a hand in the ginkgo tree’s death?

Xiao Han harbored this suspicion because Sun Man had just given her an excellent reason to doubt her.

She knew perfectly well that Xiao Han and Li Heng were a couple, knew how rare their meetings were, yet still insisted on coming over to eat at their home—what was her motive? Clearly, this girl wasn’t harmless.

Xiao Han pondered: Could Sun Man secretly hope Mai Sui would marry Honey? Otherwise, her behavior made no sense.

Of course, it’s possible Sun Man became an idiot after getting into college.

But could she really be an idiot? Xiao Han suddenly felt it was exhausting to love a man so outstanding—everyone with ulterior motives watched him, and without realizing it, she’d become everyone’s enemy.

Outside the school gate, seeing her scheming wife lead him toward Lao Li Restaurant, Li Heng asked, “Really eating out?”

Xiao Han pouted, “If we go home to cook now, won’t we offend someone?”

Li Heng smiled and said, “Alright then, eat out we will. This afternoon, we’ll return to our new home on Wukang Road—I’ll cook dinner for my wife myself.”

Xiao Han flashed a sweet dimple and replied crisply, “Yes, I’ll do as you say.”

In a fit of temper, she’d quarreled with Yu Shuheng and taken the child away that afternoon.

Without saying a word, she’d won another round—and her mood instantly lifted.

On the other side.

After running ahead a short distance, Ye Ning raised her thumb and said, “Sun Man, you’re amazing! You actually dared to stab Xiao Han in the back. I thought they were heading to the market to buy groceries and cook at home—you just said that, and now they’ll definitely go to a restaurant.”

Sun Man twisted her mouth. “Do you think I want to? I’m doing this for Mai Sui. Think about it—if Li Heng and Xiao Han are cooing and cuddling in Building 26, sleeping in the same bed at night, what’s Mai Sui supposed to think?”

Mai Sui’s heart might ache with envy, but she can’t show it.

As her sister, I naturally have to help her—even if I can’t stop Li Heng and Xiao Han’s relationship, at least I can make sure she doesn’t have to see it.”

Ye Ning grinned. “Perfect! Absolutely perfect! But come on—you’ve said several times you want Li Heng to sleep with you so you can stay friends with Sui Sui. Honestly, aren’t you just disguising your true feelings as jokes, testing Li Heng’s reaction?”

“Get lost! Get the hell out! Get out of here!”

Sun Man flew into a rage and kicked her. “I’ve always seen him as a brother—don’t you dare smear me like that, or I’ll tear your mouth apart if Mai Sui misunderstands me!”

Ye Ning, half a head taller, took the kick without flinching, bent down, and brushed the dust off her pants. “If you’re just joking, good—otherwise, I’d have to save up to buy you a coffin and bury you. Don’t you realize? Even my beautiful cousin couldn’t get Li Heng to sleep with her—what makes you think you can?”

Sun Man puffed out her chest. “At least my chest is bigger than yours.”

“Big isn’t enough. You don’t have Shihe’s fragrance or Mai Sui’s allure. In ancient times, you’d be fit only to be a wet nurse in the imperial palace,” Ye Ning shot back.

“You flat-chested wasteland, how dare you mock me?”
