Chapter 649

~5 min read 844 words

At just after five in the morning, a faint light had already begun to glow outside the window.

The sky gradually brightened.

Li Heng prepared to sneak out of bed, but discovered Teacher Yu curled up in his arms, her head resting on his arm, sleeping soundly.

He gazed down at her for a long while, unwilling to wake her, thinking: even if Song Yu came to Shanghai, the flight would take two hours in the air, not to mention travel time and waiting at the airport—she couldn’t possibly arrive this soon.

With this thought, he felt somewhat reassured.

The only thing he needed to avoid now was leaving the No. 25 cottage before Miss Zhou woke up.

Last night, Teacher Yu had clearly left No. 26 cottage; Li Heng had guessed that Miss Zhou, the night owl, probably hadn’t slept in the attic, so he hadn’t tried to stop her—he let her go.

Then he timed it well and climbed back over the wall.

Hey, he didn’t even know why he was being so careful with Miss Zhou’s feelings?

Damn it, he might not even be able to save himself today.

Could his scheming bride come over?

If Xiao Han and Song Yu ran into each other, that alone would be enough to give him trouble, let alone with Teacher Yu still around.

By the way, today is the Dragon Boat Festival—won’t Teacher Yu be going home? Right?

After mulling over all these thoughts, Li Heng reached again for the watch on the nightstand and checked the time.

5:32

Wow, his timing was pretty accurate.

Li Heng put on the watch, then looked down again at Teacher Yu, still fast asleep.

Should he leave?

Or wait a little longer?

Just as he hesitated, Teacher Yu stirred in her sleep, rolled over, slipped out of his embrace, and turned toward the wall, continuing to sleep.

Li Heng pushed himself up on both hands, leaned down to observe her; her eyes were closed, her breathing even—she showed no sign of waking.

He no longer held back, quietly got out of bed, picked up the clothes he’d tossed on the floor last night, then slipped out of the bedroom holding them. Immediately, he glanced toward the opposite No. 27 cottage—windows and doors tightly shut, the girls there probably hadn’t woken yet.

He exhaled in relief, quickly dressed, then went downstairs, climbed over the wall, climbed back in—all in one smooth motion.

Just as he returned to No. 26 cottage to retrieve the Mercedes keys, Teacher Yu sat up on the bed, slipped on her slippers, walked to the window, lifted a corner of the curtain with her finger, and quietly observed the scene across the way.

In Teacher Yu’s line of sight: Li Heng had changed into a new outfit, perhaps even dressed up a little—he looked unusually refined and artistic. He opened the courtyard gate, locked it behind him, and left, departing from Lushan Village.

Before leaving, Li Heng turned back to glance at No. 25 cottage.

His sudden glance caught her off guard, making Yu Shuheng instinctively step two paces back into the room.

Is the little man going to pick up Song Yu?

For a moment, she felt a faint pang of regret—she should have clung to him and slept another hour.

But she only regretted it briefly, then let it go. Today’s ordeal was probably just as hard for him.

….

Fudan University to the airport was a considerable distance.

Li Heng was an excellent driver; whether day or night, no car could resist him—if one attempt failed, he’d try twice; if twice failed, he’d just throw hundreds of millions at it—any car would eventually submit.

He sped along, quickly covering two-thirds of the journey.

But just then, the car jolted suddenly, then began swaying and losing control; fortunately, his driving experience and calm demeanor allowed him to pull over safely.

He opened the door and took a look—his head spun.

Damn it! Why now? Why not earlier or later?

The tire had been punctured by a nail—it was flat!

Was this an omen? A sign that today would be full of misfortune?

Fortunately, this area was still fairly bustling; Li Heng searched around and eventually asked for directions to a small convenience store, where he began making a call.

He called Teacher Yu.

“Ding ling ling…”

“Ding ling ling…”

The phone rang five times before being answered.

“Who is this?”

Hearing that familiar, drowsy voice, Li Heng felt a surge of warmth: “Teacher, it’s me.”

Yu Shuheng froze, glanced at the receiver in her hand, and asked softly: “Little brother, when did you sneak off my bed?”

She was testing him.

Li Heng was desperate now, with no time for games—he cut straight to the point, explained his situation, and ended with: “I need help.”

Yu Shuheng asked: “Can’t you find a repair shop nearby?”

Li Heng replied: “I asked passersby—it’s still far, and it’s probably not open yet.”

Yu Shuheng asked: “Aren’t there any tire repair tools in the car?”
