Chapter 708: Heart-Shaped Stud Earrings
Back on the bed, Li Heng immediately reached out and pulled Mai Sui into his arms, inhaling the scent of her hair: “It’s wonderful to be able to possess you openly.”
It was plain language.
Yet it was the most moving words Mai Sui had ever heard; she smiled softly, snuggling closer against him, slowly drifting into sleep.
Before falling asleep, she closed her eyes and murmured: “So sleepy—I’m going to sleep.”
“Mm.”
Li Heng murmured in reply, then lowered his head to silently watch over her, guarding her until her breathing grew steady and deep, at last closing his own eyes and falling into contented slumber.
Having stayed up late together the night before, only sleeping at dawn, they slept deeply.
When Mai Sui opened her eyes again, it was already past nine in the morning.
Since childhood, she had always been the golden child in the eyes of relatives and friends; she never imagined one day she would go to such lengths for a man.
Nor did she ever imagine Li Heng would go to such lengths for her.
Thinking of this, Mai Sui turned her head to gaze at the man beside her, staring dreamily, her eyes filled with deep love.
Meeting this man felt like being reborn; the world had changed color because of him, becoming more beautiful.
She loved him so, so much.
It was just a little regretful that she could not fully possess an entire him.
But thinking of her own situation, thinking of how she had risen above others, thinking of her best friend Song Yu, thinking of the women who loved him but could never have him, she let go completely.
To share a bed with him today was already heaven’s greatest favor to her.
And besides, he doted on her so deeply—what more could she possibly want?
The greatest happiness in life was being with him; contentment brought lasting joy.
After staring at him blankly for a while longer, Mai Sui carefully slipped out of his arms, rose silently, put on her shoes, and began washing up and dressing.
After arranging her hair, she looked at herself in the mirror—radiantly beautiful. After a moment of thought, she pulled open the middle drawer and took out a jewelry box.
Inside lay a pair of heart-shaped stud earrings.
Having promised him, and as a new bride, this was a sacred moment worth forever remembering; after hesitation, Mai Sui hardened her resolve and decisively picked up the left earring, putting it on.
Then she took the right earring and fastened it.
After completing this, Mai Sui stood up, turned left and right before the mirror—the earrings suited her perfectly, and she was thoroughly satisfied.
The man on the bed still slept; she paused beside the bed for a moment, then quietly left, stepping out of the bedroom.
It was already well past noon; she needed to buy breakfast, so her beloved would have something to eat upon waking.
But as soon as she descended the stairs and stepped out the gate, she sensed something was off.
She felt someone watching her.
Mai Sui instinctively looked up—and her gaze met the three women on the 27th building.
At that moment, Zhou Shihe, Sun Man, and Ye Ning were on the upper floor, staring down at her in unison.
Mai Sui was momentarily stunned, and inexplicably felt a twinge of guilt.
Across the distance, Sun Man was the first to break the silence, waving at her and shouting: “Mai Sui, where are you going?”
Mai Sui replied: “To buy breakfast.”
Hearing this, Sun Man let out a knowing “Oh,” then grabbed Zhou Shihe’s left hand and Ye Ning’s right hand; the three women turned together and headed downstairs.
Soon, the three arrived before Mai Sui.
Ye Ning exclaimed at once: “Wow! After just one night apart, Suisui, why are you looking so radiant? Your skin is glowing—so envious! Did Li Da buy you some new imported skincare? Are you secretly using it behind our backs?”
Sun Man scrutinized her friend closely, then chimed in: “Spill the truth—did you sneak some immortal elixir last night? How did you change so dramatically?”
Actually, Sun Man wasn’t as clueless as Ye Ning; she had vaguely suspected something, since Mai Sui rarely slept in, let alone this late.
Everything about this was abnormal.
As a new bride who had spent a night in passion, how could her complexion not be radiant? Mai Sui’s cheeks warmed under their teasing; she smiled gently and replied: “I didn’t use any new cosmetics—just drank more warm water and got enough sleep.”
Beside her, Zhou Shihe’s gaze settled on Mai Sui’s earlobes, on the bright, gleaming heart-shaped studs—she remained silent.
She knew these earrings well; she had once plotted with Mai Sui to compete with Xiao Han, even suggesting she wear heart-shaped studs.
But Zhou Shihe had never expected the situation to change so swiftly; combined with Mai Sui’s radiant complexion this morning and her unusually late rising, many things were now glaringly obvious.
Having reached her conclusion, Zhou Shihe calmly withdrew her gaze, stepped lightly past Mai Sui, Man, and Ye Ning, and headed first down the alley.
The three women hadn’t eaten breakfast yet; they had been waiting for Mai Sui.
But this wait had stretched for hours.
So now, Sun Man and Ye Ning seized the opportunity, relentlessly teasing Mai Sui, complaining nonstop.
Of course, the ultimate goal of their complaints was simple: hehe, make Suisui pay.
Unable to resist, Mai Sui sighed helplessly: “Whatever you want to eat, pick freely—I’ll pay.”
Ye Ning grabbed her shoulders and shook them: “Really?”
Mai Sui murmured: “Mm.”
Ye Ning puckered her lips: “Rich lady, then take us to Lantian Restaurant.”
Mai Sui was speechless, but still smiled and agreed.
Having achieved their goal, Ye Ning and Sun Man clapped their hands joyfully, shouting: “Yay!”
Ye Ning gushed: “Suisui’s the best—I love you.”
Sun Man added: “Airport girl, eat what you need—later I’ll order you milk, drink lots, hahaha!”
Ye Ning fumed: “Damn it! You dumbass, who are you talking about?”
Sensing trouble, Sun Man bolted toward the alley entrance, still taunting: “No front, no back—she’s a man, hahaha…”
The two lunatics bickered as usual, then chased each other off.
Watching the two girls vanish like wind, Mai Sui caught up with Zhou Shihe ahead, slipped her arm through hers, and walked side by side for a while before breaking the silence: “Shihe, if you have something to ask, just ask.”
Zhou Shihe smiled gently and shook her head.
Seeing this, Mai Sui unconsciously exhaled in relief: “We’re sisters for life.”
Zhou Shihe walked ten or so steps, then said calmly: “Yes.”
The three women went to Lantian Restaurant and ate heartily.
Well, mainly Sun Man and Ye Ning were insatiable, ordering only the most expensive dishes, claiming they were helping Li Da show off his wealth.
By the time the women returned home, it was just past ten.
Coincidentally, as they stepped onto the second floor of Building 26, Li Heng emerged from the guest room.
Seeing him yawning, half-asleep, Ye Ning blurted without restraint: “Oh! Li Da, did you overindulge last night? Still not awake?”
The first to feel uncomfortable was Mai Sui; her whole body tensed, and she had to puff out her cheeks to calm the flutter in her chest.
Zhou Shihe glanced at him, but didn’t pause, walking straight to the sofa.
Sun Man pinched Ye Ning’s waist hard and scolded: “Are you trying to die? You eat his food, drink his tea, and still insult him—do you want a beating? If he didn’t stay up late writing to earn money, how could you eat so well this morning? You conceited brat! Ungrateful wretch! If I were a man, I’d beat you to death.”
Li Heng: “...”
Mai Sui: “...”
Zhou Shihe: “...”
Whenever these two quarreled, they could spit out the strangest, most outrageous things—utterly audacious.
Fortunately, everyone was used to it by now; they no longer reacted.
After washing up, Li Heng joined them on the sofa—but as soon as he sat down, he suddenly remembered something, then sharply turned to face Building 25 across the way.
At that moment, the windows and doors of Building 25 were open; they could see Teacher Yu sitting on the living room sofa, reading.
Li Heng flushed, then picked up the breakfast and left.
“Hey, rich guy, where are you going?” Ye Ning asked.
Li Heng didn’t hide it: “I’m taking breakfast to Teacher Yu.”
Hearing this, Sun Man and Ye Ning turned to look at Zhou Shihe and Mai Sui, eager to see if either was jealous.
Zhou Shihe remained composed, opening the newspaper she had just bought on the way and began reading.
