Chapter 80: Chapter Seventy-Seven: Strange Space and Magic
Su Qing and Yao walked up the stairs and soon arrived at a strange space.
This place was deathly still and dark, lacking any vitality, yet filled with a soothing aura.
Su Qing didn't know how to describe it, only feeling that there was no danger here.
His mind raced, thinking about whether to go deeper.
"You…" Su Qing looked at Yao, and Yao also looked at him.
The two looked at each other; Su Qing, following the gentlemen-first principle, went in first.
Yao glanced at him and quickly followed.
Thus, the two proceeded one after another; they saw no sun or moon above, the surroundings were dim and lightless yet everything was visible—very peculiar.
Su Qing and Yao walked, stopped, and observed around; they found the black ground beneath their feet devoid of any life, and after walking a while they hadn't even seen a single weed.
Moreover, even stranger, after walking half a day they saw no end to the space; it seemed boundless.
"Should we go on or turn back?" Su Qing looked at the endless path ahead, turned his head to Yao and asked.
Yao didn't answer directly, but after a moment of silence, with a strange expression she said: "Since entering this place, I faintly hear something calling me."
Hearing this, Su Qing raised his eyebrows: "Can you be sure of the exact direction?"
Yao nodded, pointed forward: "It's right ahead; I can't tell exactly how far, but it's there."
Upon hearing that, Su Qing nodded, thinking it must be so: whatever was calling Yao, eight out of ten times it had enlightened her and set her on the mage's path.
Since he knew there was a great opportunity ahead, Su Qing naturally could not retreat.
Thus he took the lead, bringing Yao forward to continue.
This space seemed eternal and unchanging; after going for over an hour, about three or four kilometers, the surroundings remained dark.
After another two hours, Su Qing began to have second thoughts; the ground beneath his feet suddenly turned into desert, and ahead appeared a different color.
It was a striking, vivid red, emitting brilliant red light, very eye-catching in this dark space.
Yet strangely, before stepping into the desert, neither Su Qing nor Yao had seen any color at all.
"It seems this space has a limitation." Su Qing stood in place, thought silently, then looked at Yao beside him, about to ask whether the calling voice was that red light ahead.
But he suddenly noticed her face was pale, as if she were suppressing something.
Frowning, Su Qing asked concernedly: "How are you…"
But before he could finish, his head throbbed, and a voice appeared in his ear, full of temptation: "Do you want eternal life? Do you want power surpassing all? If so, kill her; as long as you kill her, everything you desire will come true."
"Hiss! Damn it." Su Qing's heart tightened, then came a familiar routine, this familiar opening line, this familiar rhetoric—are you the main god?
Cursing inwardly, he suppressed the sudden greed rising from his heart, cautiously scanned the surroundings, and found no danger.
But he saw Yao sitting on the ground beside him, eyes closed, sweat pouring from her forehead, as if she were desperately controlling something.
It seemed she had also been affected.
Having that thought, Su Qing could only stare helplessly, with no good solution.
This voice that hooks human greed is obviously something from the magic side.
Since he transmigrated, he had never encountered magic; the only time was when he sailed across the barrier covering Paradise Island.
He was completely unfamiliar with it!
He rubbed his temples, Su Qing stood in place, resisting the greed while guarding Yao.
Time passed unknown in this state.
At some point, Yao sitting on the ground stirred; she slowly opened her eyes, her face still somewhat pale but no longer straining.
Had she overcome the greed?
"Are you okay?" Yao spoke, her voice weak.
"I'm fine, still holding up. You completely handled it." Su Qing asked curiously.
"I suppose I overcame that voice." Yao showed a faint smile, then abruptly changed the subject: "Do you think what that voice said is true?"
"True or false, what difference does it make?" Su Qing didn't answer, smiling and throwing the question back.
Hearing his words, Yao fell silent for a moment, her expression eased, smiling she asked: "Still want to go?"
"Walking three days and three nights is no problem." Su Qing smiled confidently.
Since there was no problem, the two continued onward, heading toward the red light.
Soon.
The two then saw the true nature of the red light.
It was a light point, yes, a red light point.
Su Qing stared at the light point in midair, his teeth aching; it was somewhat different from what he imagined, and he had thought it would be a magic book.
Yao also looked at the light point, closed her eyes to sense it for a moment, then said: "It is this light point that is calling me."
"This is your opportunity." Su Qing had no thought of seizing it.
"I…" Yao wanted to say something, but Su Qing cut her off: "Go up and grab the light point; I think you'll gain something unexpected!"
Seeing him say that, Yao no longer hesitated, stepped forward two steps and reached out to seize the light point.
But at the instant her fingers touched it, the light point vanished; meanwhile Yao's eyes closed, her legs went weak, and she was about to fall.
Fortunately Su Qing reacted quickly, stepped forward and caught her.
"She fainted."
Seeing Yao leaning against him, Su Qing checked her breath, confirmed it was just a faint, relaxed his arms, lifted Yao, and headed back the way they came. Since the light point had disappeared there was nothing to linger for; better to hurry back.
Because Yao was looking after Yao, the speed coming had been slower; now that she was unconscious, Su Qing's pace increased, and he reached the entrance in only forty minutes.
Su Qing carried Yao down the stairs.
But when he reached the second floor and turned back, he was astonished to find that the stairs they had just come from had vanished, turned into a wall.
"Bang— bang—"
Su Qing lowered their head and knocked; huh, the wall really exists.
But at that moment, a voice sounded from within the bosom: "It has already disappeared."
Su Qing lowered their head and saw that Yao had already woken; a touch of pink had appeared on Yao's pale face, and Yao's eyes darted as they whispered softly: "You can let me down now."
Indeed, no matter how awesome one becomes later, at the age of eighteen or nineteen, one will still be shy and blush.
Su Qing inwardly sneered, kept their composure, put Yao down, and asked curiously: "How are you now?"
"I'm fine." Yao nodded, then after recalling something, tilted their head to look at Su Qing and added: "Do you want to know what the Light Point is?"
"What?"
"That Light Point is a carrier, recording the knowledge of a mysterious power."
"What power?" Su Qing had already guessed in their heart, but still pretended not to understand.
Yao's eyes flickered, and they whispered softly: "Magic!"
