Chapter 115: Sudden Change

~6 min read 1,108 words

Just as they reached the second floor, before Yan Ge could knock, the voice of Mistress Yan came from inside the room.

"Is that Han Li and Yan Ge?"

"Yes, Fourth Mistress!" Yan Ge hurriedly stopped his steps and answered respectfully.

"Yan Ge, you go back first. Let Han Li enter the room alone." Mistress Yan's cold voice came through, and the icy tone made Han Li's heart stir.

"As you command." Yan Ge clearly respected Mistress Yan very much and didn't hesitate at all at her order. After smiling at Han Li, he quietly retreated from the second floor, leaving Han Li alone outside the room.

Han Li looked coldly at the door. He didn't push it open immediately but released his spiritual sense to perceive the situation inside. He didn't want to be hacked to death by a room full of ambushers the moment he entered; it was better to be careful!

The room was very quiet, and there weren't many people inside. There were only the breathing and heartbeats of a few people, including Mistress Yan. It seemed there were no unexpected people inside, which put Han Li's mind at ease.

So, he stepped forward, knocked twice, pushed the door open, and glanced inside, intending to enter. The scene inside the room caused Han Li's expression to change drastically, and the step he had taken stopped mid-air.

The room was the same one he had visited last night; the tables, chairs, and decorations were all exactly the same. The only difference was the attire of the beautiful women. Mistress Yan and the other beautiful women were all dressed in white, wearing mourning clothes, sitting upright on chairs, staring coldly at him.

Han Li's face turned somewhat pale, but it wasn't out of fear; he was angered by the deceased Doctor Mo.

It was clear that he had been played by that old fox, Doctor Mo, once again. That letter clearly had hidden mysteries, just as he had guessed. These tigresses had already learned of Doctor Mo's death from it and were waiting here for him, the murderer of their husband, to deliver himself to their door!

Han Li took a deep breath, and his expression returned to normal. He then strode into the room, unceremoniously found a single chair, sat down grandly opposite the women, and stared at them without saying a word, intending to see how these women planned to deal with him.

Clearly, Han Li's unscrupulous approach, prepared to tear off the mask of civility, was far beyond the expectations of Mistress Yan and the others, throwing them off balance, each with different expressions.

The Second Mistress, Li, had a livid expression; she was clearly angered by this junior who had been calling her "Mistress" yesterday but now dared to stare at them blatantly. She came from a scholarly family and valued seniority and rank above all else, so how could she not be trembling with anger at encountering someone like Han Li, who had no respect for his elders or teachers?

The Third Mistress, Liu, was quite different from Mistress Li. Not only was she not angry, but she looked back at Han Li with great interest. However, due to her astonishing charm, Han Li didn't dare to look at her too closely, only glancing over her face.

Mistress Yan was much like the cold and elegant Mistress Wang. She stared coldly at Han Li without changing her expression, her gaze filled with a chill that could freeze everything.

"You have quite a lot of nerve, my husband's final disciple!" After the two sides had stared at each other for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Mistress Yan finally spoke, though the sarcasm in her words was clear to everyone.

"Mistresses, whatever you want to know or say, just say it directly. I don't want to hear nonsense, and I don't want to speak nonsense!" Han Li said expressionlessly.

Han Li knew very well that if there was anything worse than arguing with one woman, it was engaging in a verbal battle with several women at once. Rather than struggling to distinguish the facts, it was better to get straight to the heart of the matter; that was what Han Li believed.

Moreover, there were no masters of sword and blade lying in ambush in the room, which meant these women didn't intend to attack him right now. It seemed they either had some reservations or needed something from him. Since that was the case, there was no need to be too polite to them. In any case, Doctor Mo's death was his own doing; he had nothing to be ashamed of.

"You..." Even someone like Mistress Yan, who had seen all sorts of situations, was rendered almost speechless by Han Li's blunt tone.

"Fine, I'll ask you! Did my husband die at the hands of you, this rebellious disciple!" The Second Mistress could no longer hold back, her beautiful eyes almost spitting fire. The scholarly aura about her vanished, leaving only a face full of resentment.

"Second Sister," Mistress Yan frowned and called out softly, seemingly wanting to stop the Second Mistress from asking a question that would cause an immediate fallout.

"This Mistress Li is quite straightforward, putting the most critical question on the table immediately." Han Li sneered inwardly.

"You could say he died at my hands, or you could say he 'committed suicide'!" Han Li said indifferently.

As soon as these words were spoken, the women opposite, including Mistress Yan, were stunned. They had expected Han Li to either deny it flatly or admit it unscrupulously; they hadn't expected him to say something so baffling.

The Second Mistress, Li, was stunned for a moment, but then flew into a rage, clearly believing Han Li was playing with them.

"What nonsense are you spouting? It was clearly you who harmed him." Mistress Li said, trembling all over.

"How do you know for sure that I harmed him? Did you see it with your own eyes?" Han Li retorted without ceremony. He knew very well that the letter was written before Doctor Mo was harmed, so it couldn't be certain that he was the one who killed him. He estimated that the letter left for these wives only contained conjectures, so Han Li could refute them without any reservations.

"Since you say so, then tell us women the story of how my husband was harmed. If it truly has nothing to do with you, we won't deliberately wrong you." The Fifth Mistress, Wang, who had been cold and silent, suddenly spoke up.
